This may sound like a dumb question asking exactly how one becomes player of the month, but, I always wondered, do the GM's just pick a random person in a server they like while they're doing an event or someone that they know? Another question would be most of the time when I see a player of the month, (no offense to one that is, and sorry if I do offend you) but they're always someone who's a high level which I can imagine would be reasonable for their hard work at leveling, but they almost always have lots of SC items also. I mean, it might just be a coincidence, but are they picked by how much SC they buy or something?

Maybe the GMs stalk a personand if they're helpful or something, the person may be a worthy candidate for player of the month ^^. From the interviews of past winners, it appears to be random. People who win are obviously helpful in-game. Just because you've been playing for a long time doesn't necessarily mean you'll win.
I don't tihnk it would be fair to pick people who bought the most SC. I guess it's always a possibility, but this is not something Outspark would need...just because this would give people more of a reason to complain about OS taking money u.u which would provide more complaints on the forums. We don't need to see more complaints.

In my experience a lot of high levels use spark cash. However, when I was chosen it wasn't because of how much I spend, or what level I was at the time.
Player of the Month is generally someone who is known to be helpful or generous. In my case I gifted a wedding app to someone on a different server on a whim, and a GM happened to see it. It was a random act of kindness because I was in a good mood that day.
Naomi89 is incredibly helpful on the forums, when she has the answer she always gives a well thought out response that makes the answer clear to the user. She's kind and she's supportive.
PoTM is supposed to recognize those community members that go above and beyond to help others. I'm sure there are a lot more people in this community that deserve the title than we all realize :)
Edit: Btw, when it comes to spending a lot of SC, I may use it but I'm certainly not one of the most prolific users. I cannot afford to be a prolific buyer on my salary with my bills, so I only buy sc when I can budget for it. I know a number of players who spend a great deal more than I do ^^

Yes, i was Epith's 1st MvP when silki voted me for it :D :D
the cap was 79, and i tanked Gordon M with Grady(archer) and YunGemstone(cleric). other tanks pretty much kissed floor due to the insane amount of Returned ghost slimes running around..

I'm not entirely sure, but my guess would be that if a GM or GL happens to notice you acting kindly, caring or helpfully towards other players then they will vote for you.
If you really want to be Player of the Month, be nice in whatever you do, gain a repuation for it and hopefully you'll get noticed.
And no, it's not a coincidence, high levels and SC users tend to be friendlier than lower levels because they have more to lose from a bad reputation. Although, rather unfairly high levels are more influential and so would get noticed a lot easier, and they probably are more likely to get PoTM
