archers are pretty good in Fiesta, so go on, try it. you can always made another char. Besides Clarics rule! (and mages too) ;)

I don't know about Clerics but I do know Mages also have long ranged spells.
Anyhow it depends on how you play and build I guess.
(I've only died like once with my Mage and like you I'm not really good with them.)

about clerics - they are close ranged fighters, at leas when they are not in party. They pretty good in this becouse of the self healing. Someone said that they are invincible, but I have lot of death on my account ;) Well often becouse I wanted to heal someone from or not from my party.
One little thing - people! If someone save you, and then die, try to say THANK YOU.
They don't accually use lot of mana (healing skill - 7, attack - 9, and buffs little more, but you use them once an hour) so they can fight long time without resting, though killing monster usually takes a little time.
With mage - deffinitely long range. Good spells and powerfull, so you can really kill monster before he come to you, but if he does, you should pray to stay alive.

I like both classes. :)

My friend started as an archer and I a fighter and so far so good
Although he dies every now and again
(as do I)
But the archer has a little less HP but more SP so using skills with the archer is your best bet.
