the current status of the worm known as consfiker can only use your pc for spamming other pc's. the one flaw with this is that they "the programmers of it" also set it to log the actions and report back to a host pc. Its not and ill bold this [B] Going to effect you if you update your system and its malware / antivirus / spyware detection tool{/B]

the only special thing about today is that they are allegedly modifying the code to exploit other known security flaws with windows OS's

I heard from a number of people in gamerl talking about a virus being activated today. Its not a joke they are telling the truth. Some of my friends arnt playing today because of it. Be warned D:.

Conficker is a pretty tricky virus, your computer might of have it from a year back unless you've been reformating your PC, which btw is the best way to clean your PC, and the virus is set to go live today.

I recommend no one enters into your banking accounts or anything that has great value over the internet, because this virus can either steal your information, or like what happened to kissing's sister, it could mess your computer; dont know if the damage that this virus creates would be beyond repairing.

Dont update anything in your PC today, that you should of have done yesterday.
This virus, if you have it, will prevent connection to websites that have antivirus service, so thats one way to find out.

You think they (the author(s)) didn't think of that (referring to what you called a flaw)?

The virus known as conficker.c generates 50,000 domains or URLs through it's own programming and reports back only to 500 of them, daily, awaiting new instructions from the Master computer. And that's the biggest problem. Going through 50,000 sites to see which ones are legit and then narrowing those 500 down to one and repeating the process.

Reformatting a computer can only get you so far. If you catch it again, reformatting AGAIN is a waste of time and unpractical.

Hmm, easy way to see if you have it or not. go to McAfee/Norton/Etc. Websites "Apparently" [Not Sure] if you can go on them, your safe.

McAfee has a usefull tool for PC users, on the home page it says something along the lines of "Protecting yourself from the confickor worm" and under "Learn More" it has a link to the Windows Site, allowing you to download a security patch that [Once again] "Apparently" keeps you safe.

Install Microsoft Security Update MS08-067: [Link Here, cant put it due to ToS i think]
All you have to do, is click your operating system, download and initiate the patch :D

Yeah if you can access security sites and even start a scan, you should be good, you should still scan your computer anyway *is doing that right now*. This actually did the same thing last April 1st too apparently, and unless it's completely stopped (which is basically impossible due to being unable to find an origination point and having them spread over millions of computers), it's going to continue every year at April 1st...so lol, yeah, its best to do only simple things today on your computer. Yay for virus engineers

i see it as a massive flaw. 5000 know domain names at 500 a day = 100 day rotation cycle. which the nsa has a nice super computer to crack the random algorithm for.

so running an ip trace wouldnt be nearly as difficult. after that search and remove said domains until you find the real host ;)

thats the inherent flaw with any log.

also reformatting ? ...my god do a root kit removal or something practical before you jump of the cliff without a parachute
