View Full Version : Is It Great Becoming an Adult?--This From a 13 Year Old

Heya! I just thought for a moment if becoming an adult was everything that you had expected when you were young. I wanna ask the community since to me it seems more fun to do so.
My prediction is that it is, I mean you get to go anywhere all the time, spend the money on anything, drive to ANY place(I don't get to do that T.T), have so much fun and all the rest that you guys get to do. It must be really great to be an adult.
Also, do you guys still believe in magic when your an adult? I still do lol.

Hmmm...
While growing up, I find that no, it's not like I imagined. I thought we could have more freedom, but freedom comes responsibilities...
So, don't be in a hurry to grow up. It's good to be young. ^.~
No, I don't believe in magic anymore, but I still enjoy watching and hearing stories about it.
And I still hope on meeting Santa Claus one day. ^^

Lol. Only 14, but my mom says magic isn't real to the point of where i have to agree... *still secretly believes in magic*

To be blunt, I would never want to be thirteen again, mostly for pyschological reasons. When I was that age, I was a complete idiot. I can still be an idiot ten years later, of course, but I manage to do it a bit less frequently now that I understand myself and the world a bit more. I also can recognize when I've been stupid -- and admit the fact -- which is something my younger self was rarely able to do.
I mean you get to go anywhere all the time, spend the money on anything, drive to ANY place(I don't get to do that T.T), have so much fun and all the rest that you guys get to do. It must be really great to be an adult.
This seems to be a common misconception. Sure, there's fun to be had, but it's not free. Unless people are in the habit of giving you large sums of money gratis, you're going to have to find a job to pay for all the driving and spending. ;)

It's all fun cuz you get to drink n' drive (not suggested)...........but you have to work.
Personally, send me back to kindergarten >.>

Right now, I'm in the transition of becoming an adult. Yes, I am 18 right now, but I won't consider myself in the true stages of being an adult until I am out of high school and into college.
Honestly, to tell you the truth, I would love to be able to go back in time and relive my high school years again.
When you become a senior in high school, it really does go by fast. It's very true it does. And all that's on your mind is what you will do after high school, where you're going to college, what you want to do as a career, and in this process, at least for me, you don't look at a few things.
You don't really register that you won't ever see some of your best friends anymore after you graduate until later in the year.
For me, my best friend right now is more than likely going to college on the other side of the country and I will be staying here. I won't get to see her much anymore, if at all anymore. This is very depressing to me. I knew this was a possibility for a while now, but it hasn't registered a lot to me until recently.
This is something I don't enjoy in becoming an adult.
There are good things for the process, though, don't get me wrong.
You get to go to college. You get to decide what you want to do with the rest of your life. You get the satisfaction that you finished your long 13-14 years of public school. I can only imagine that walking up to getting your high school diploma will be one of the greatest and most satisfying memories of your life, and looking out to your fellow peers and knowing that you and them are all leaving with each other. I am looking forward to this.
So, becoming an adult has its ups and downs. But all in all, I think it's going to be a great experience, even if there are going to be some things not so good in becoming an adult. Just be sure you prepare yourself for the good and bad in becoming an adult.

Yeah I'm sure any kid would imagine adulthood would be great. No responsability, no rules, no parents. Well not really lol. Our lifestyes are all different.
go anywhere at any time:
meh not so much. I spend most of my time working and at school. So are most of my friends. I do dream of getting out there and traveling one day though but I want to get through college first.
Spend Money on Anything
Not really possible at the moment lol. Especially with the rise of prices lately. I do treat myself to clothes and electronics and stuff but I try not to spend too much. Most of my money goes towards paying for a semester and it isn't cheap :/ My parents only paid for a year of college and I'll be going into my third year this fall.
Drive to ANY Place
I hate driving lol. I hate the highway as well. I like driving fast but I just prefer taking the side roads to get places. My friend who I usually drive places to recently took off the insurance on his car and sold it so guess I'll be stuck driving this summer when he comes down from college in Vermont this summer.
I must say that being an adult has its ups and downs. Just don't expect too much ;) Enjoy being a kid while you still can because it will fly by and if you try and rush through it, you'll miss out on alot of good times. I know I miss being a teen XD

Not to sound negative but being an adult isn't all that great. Basically life just starts flying by so fast you can barely remember if you took a shower lol. I have 2 kids, 4 years and almost 6 months old, and for me, being a mom is by far the best part of being an adult. Kids are fun, work and bills are not. Everything is expensive where i live, so I cannot spend money on whatever I want. I cannot go wherever I want because I have kids :D But I would say the short time I had in between being a teenager and being a parent (i.e. single adult female about 18-23 for me lol, it was short^^) was sooooo much fun. Maybe that's why it didnt last so long for me, hmm.............
EDIT: forgot to answer this part lol. Yes, I still believe in magic :3

all i can say is i never wanna go back to school and i dont wanna go to child shelters my childhood sucked, i have nightmares. nightmares of having to go back to school and of going to a frikken shelter. how good adulthood and childhood is varies from person to person. i'd rather be an adult, but i dont wanna get old. old problems can start from ages 40~60. every1 i know in their 60's has problems like arthritis, diabetes, ect. So if u make good choices, being an adult should be good. Think very hard about having kids. go babysit when u get older and if u dont like it, then dont have kids.

Well, i'm 19 and so far i can say i'm enjoying myself better than when i was younger. For starters i don't have to learn unnecesary and boring subjects in college like i did in highschool (i was so happy it was over). I get to chose what i want to do in life and i'm closer to fulfilling my dreams.
The best friends thing doesn't really apply to me. I had a very good friend from 5th to 8th grade i believe and then once i began highschool things fell apart, so i guess we weren't that close after all. (and we live in the same building too) Also my classmates were never the type i could get close to. Sure we talked at times and such, but more like buddies than real close friends. Now i have more fun talking with real friends from other schools and colleges and i also got to meet some cool people. So i say that with growing up so did opportunities show up. Let's not mention that one good friend of mine that i couldn't see too often is with me in college, same profile xD We got a lot closer and i'm having lots of fun with her.
I still love those wonderful stories filled with magic and i am a big fan of anime and video games so.... Also it isn't strange for me to act all crazy and happy over stuff like these and i still believe in the supernatural to some degree. My motto is that every legend and story must have came from somewhere. Plus i wanna be a writter so it's obvious i have quite the fascination with some stories, legends and mythologies.
And considering travelling .... i do have more freedom, not absolute, but it feels great to me. It actually depends on everyone's personality. I'm not the type to go out to party or that stays out late cause i don't want to. I enjoy walks now and then and going to the mall or shopping center, but not shopping for clothes (don't really find much to my taste and it becomes frustrating).

My experience as a more younger kid has made me permanently barf a little whenever I even have a tiny taste of that stuff.
This made me lol
First time I drank I was 4, and it was good. xD
Maybe your only limiting your taste buds to beer? Because yes, beer is gross > >
And being an adult is nice, but the whole "Spend money on anything" Whatever. There's bills, food, clothes. And if you have a family there goes more money, and with this economy, start saving your money now kid. I'm only 15 and I've been considered an adult, I manage money within the family, I pay my own phone bill (Good god that's expensive), I work, and I take care of kids sometimes.
The great days of being an adult would be college uhh around 18-28 I would consider the fun days. Have fun while you're a kid P:

Hmm theres some of both but i have to say its not as much fun as the young beleave especially with the recession in the us where i live. I cant find a j o b anywhere and prices on things are expensive especially where i live responsibilities are the major downside i suppose but you do get freedom unfortunately not much i guess i was kinda vague but id rather be a kid again anyday especially with my memories then id graduate early theres freedom then without responsibilty.

To be honest, there are times when I really wish I could go back to elementary school. What I wouldn't give for that nap time in Kindergarden. Despite the fact that I often tried to get out of it when I was little.
Being an adult has its perks. I have the freedom to do things and go places on my own...but there's a side to it I didn't really picture when I was younger. Credit card bills, health insurance, car insurance, rent, grocery bills, gas money...it all adds up. So, like someone said before freedom comes with responsibility. As for alcohol, frankly that became less exciting once it was legal. I don't mind a drink here and there but I don't go out and get wasted.
My relationship with my parents changed. I'm not completely independent, but there was a point..I guess when I was 19, where my father sat me down and said that his job to be a parent and to regulate and control what I was doing was over..and that now his place was to be a friend. Someone I could turn to if I needed it. To be honest I'm a lot closer with my family now than I was when I was younger...and I appreciate growing up for that benefit.

That's really cool, right now I think of my mom more as a friend rather than a parent, and my dad is just someone I enjoy arguing with lol. Parents are fun.

As a 16 year old, well on my way to adult-hood, I'd have to say it's more of a love/hate thing.
I hate the responsability that comes with it. Gotta to better in school to get in to a collage with everybody asking me what I wanna do with my life. (When to be honest, I'm not sure. And that's fine. I'm 16 and have a bit of time to work it out) I hate hate HATE when people say I should be setting an example for younger kids. I can say fairly confidently that no little kid idolizes me. (My younger brother, unfortunately, is taking after my punkish sister :/ )
I love the feeling you get when you do something in a more mature way. For example, I recently started participating in my math class (I <3 math. Math = Life. It's wasn't challenging. I do, however love quadratic equations and such which we were just doing. :D) and I have to admit, getting the answers correct, even if I don't publicly announce it gave me a good feeling. :)
I take pride in being the mature(ish) man(Feels wierd to call myself that but everyone else says I'm a man at 16... LOL) I am today. I'm really proud of myself since I grew up with a lot of crap I really didn't need in my life, raised only by my grandma along with a younger brother and sister.
And as a last thing, life is anything but long. Live it up while you can. As a kid, get out there and meet new friends with similar intrests. The more connections you have as a kid, the easier things get as an adult. :P
Don't do drugs. Stay in school. Etc. (xD (Seriously >.>") )

i was always sick of being a kid, and going through school, but after about 6months of being out of school i found out how much it SUCKS.
Im 19
being a kid, you not responsible for your actions, dont have to be independant, get alot of things for free. The only bad thing is there are alot of rules that you have to follow from your parents, like bed time w/e
as adult
-there are bills/food which most of you money will probably go to
-cars are expensive, car payment, car insurance, vehicle registration, all that is really expensive for people 16-25 age group
-you have to get a job which sucks WAY more then school lol (you sit and do nothing in school its w/e, u sit and do nothing @ work and u get fired)
-you are responsible for your actions(idk about other places, but in vegas J-walking as adult =400$ fine or 9days in jail lol) where as kid they just tell you its wrong lol
-and then when older having kids which i have a 3yr odl niece atm that i look after alot, which children are a BIG responsibility.
the only way i see adult hood being better then child hood is if you didnt have to support yourself, like your parents let u stay w/ them forever, or you come from rich family and dont have to worry about money.

Some of you sure do have lots and lots of responsibilities for being around 19 years. I'm not obligated on taking a job now. I'll do that when i want to or when i finish college ... or better yet when i get to writting that book or script, lol. I do have to get those ideas on paper soon. I'm glad i'm never getting a car; don't want one, don't need that kind of problems.(cars also add to polution and let's not forget the accidents)
Oh and forgot to mention about drinking in my first post .... I don't do alcohol, don't like the stuff.

well its good to be an adult...n i love it..but there's sth u must not forget..
1> u can spend any amount of money on anything but remember u dont have anyone to give it to u (like ur parents do now)...has to earn on ur own...which is pain..
(hope it'll be much easier for me after completing my engineering)
2> u can drive to any place u want..still the same problem...money!!!..n addition to it time (which i dont have..hadnt gone on vacation in two years:(...so busy in studies n work on summer/spring...hard to survive alone:mad:)
3> well its fun though...like do what ever u want to do...no ones there's to yell at u....but still u'll be on ur own...u have to take care urself from shoes to ur hair zel...wat ever u eat n drink like from candy to beer....n lots of other stuffs...
4> my parents were great so were my friends in my childhood...i w/o the single worries in life i grew up...well compare to that time, now its so hard just to survive..maybe because i m a full time students living alone n i hope after my degree it'll change....but the one thing u gain at after being adult i.e freedom (of course with responsibilities), worth all ur effort u put in...

When i turned 18, I was jumping like a little school girl. Being an adult can be fun but sometimes boring. I learned how to smoke my first cigarette, bought pornography, went to strip clubs, won money at casinos in Washington etc. Welcome to the Jungle!

ok im 21 going on 22 and to be honest... for me it sucks many different types of items that shall not be discussed on this form... at least for me anyways.
i has like 10k in debt... no real job... and i had to move back in with my parents in order to work any of that debt off (thats the only reason the debt isn't like 15k and up -.-)
the ability to go out and do what ever you want at any time you want is rather overrated in my opinion cause you have to work just to maintain any sort of lifestyle and right now jobs are a scarcity... mabey ill post here again in a few months and see if my opinions have changed

Zomg, adulthood. Crazy time.
Hmm... I had alot of good times growing up, and a whole bunch of bad ones too. I think the biggest stress you have in your adult life is money. Finances. Having to always keep yourself afloat financially when it's not always possible. You get pressured into certain things too, just because you're an adult and at certain stanges of your life you're supposed to have done X,Y and Z. But it just doesn't go like that sometimes.
I'm enjoying my life, I have a job and a partner and a car and I know my limits. But there's always stresses - I did 12 years of schooling and now I'm in uni for another 4! lol.
You never stop learning.

Let me break your comment down.
I mean you get to go anywhere all the time - There are responsibilities first. Work, home upkeep, social obligations. Yes we go more places, but alot of the time it is because we HAVE to go there, not because we WANT to.
spend the money on anything - Adults of 2 kinds of cash. Dedicated and expendable. The dedicated cash is what we need for the necessities of life. Food, shelter, clothing. It is after we pay for the neccessities that we have what is left, the expendable cash. But do not think we spend it on ANYTHING we want. As an example, I can afford to buy one of every game console on the market, but do I really have to have that?
I could go into more detail but the fact is this. Yes, as adults we have more freedom, but we have more respsonsibilites also. While I had fun in my teen years, and at time think back fondly on that time, life in it's entire span is an adventure, and as long as you always treat it as such, then your age does not matter and you can always be YOUNG at heart.

:o I sorta doubt it is fun, even though im only 14, and cant just go have a beer or something, it's cool being able to play videogames all day (when your not at school) and not really having any responsibilities to attend to. ^-^
