Overcoming my hatred of Archers

I don't want to hate Archers...but for the longest time I couldn't stand them.

In lower levels, in KQS especially,
they'd lure when everyone was resting and then run around wildly, getting many people killed.
Luring monsters/mobs when the tank was already busy, with something else the Archer had lured, causing complete chaos.
And what pissed me off the most... they'd run towards the mages with a mob and dump agro on them.

Yep. I pretty much couldn't stand Archers.

Archer: "Can I join your party?"
My Party: "NO!"

recently we let one in... they started acting as if they were the boss, saying they were the most important and therefore what say goes and demaded we power lvl their friend, after we kicked them both, the Archer starting spouting off at the PT cleric about how they'd own them in PVP, then tried to kill our party...The archer failed of course.

But I decided to give archers another chance, and was pleasently suprised to have an archer I invited along be competent, best Archer I've ever partied with. Then I ran across another cool Archer.

Now I know its not the class, its the person playing it, but I rarely run into lets say, incompetent Clerics (only, 1 in all my lvls). So I've decided to chalk up the Archers annoying me to the thought that "Perhaps their class is a bit difficult to play, and in lower levels they are trying to get used to it, and once they get more experiance playing they will shine."

I think archers if played right, add something valuble to any party. I would like to party more often with Archers but I feel its a risk as the number of bad ones I've encountered, greatly outweighs the number of good ones I've meet.

I don't want it to be like that. I want to like archers.

well, i'm not a very strong archer(only lv. 19), but its great being an archer
its fun and not too easy or too hard
people always say that they can own us at everything, so its only natural that people would want to react agresively
of course, i agree with u that its the person and not the class

u certainly r rite in saying that its a triky class
we can't take too much damage, but our SP is good
i personaly love crts and dodging
its fun to see tons of purple numbers rising from monsters and killing them before they reach u
and when they do reach u, they miss (of course, i'm a low lv. so i don't know how high lv. monsters r)
its also hard to make a proper archer
there r a million ways to build one so u just have to make it however suits ur playing style and it's easy to mess up

archers don't hate anything
the person playing does
and in my case, i hate being rejected from parties
archers can be valuable players and their DoT's r very useful
i positively hate people who think they're above me

Personally, its not only archers i believe who messed things up isnt it? Its all down to the point where we look at who is playing that toon behind the computer screen. You put some joker to play a fighter and he will mess it up like he will with any other classes you gonna put him to play with, seriously.

Archer's aren't very good until level 30, just because the DoT's don't do much damage until you upgrade them a few times. It is really hard to level up because nobody wants to party with an archer because they....well, just don't like archers. You have to be somewhat intelligent to use an archer right, or you can get your party killed. You have to pay attention to what monsters are around you, and decide which one should be killed first, so that you don't get a whole mob after your group, and getting people killed.

What i hate most as an archer, is that when i pull something, and the tank doesn't taunt it. With the mobs I kill, they can kill me in 2-3 hits, so I have to heal like mad when I pull it off the tank(which i do quite often), and the cleric keeps their focus on the tank. Using nature's protection helps, but it wastes so much when then tank should be doing their job. Well, I guess what i hate even more than that is the fact that nobody wants to party with me, besides the people I know and that I've proved that I can be an asset to the party. Just give them a chance, but keep in mind, some archers are retarded. =)

Archers are a somewhat tricky class to actually get strong, but they're not too bad in terms of power (a level 24 archer might be able to solo MT without items, just depends on their ability)

hej i am a lvl36/37 archer and i am agreing to your conversation.archers hate ppl bacause if they lure and make a mistake your out of pt,if you attack some1 and then you talk you are out of the pt and it is VERY the hardest class there is.i would like a GM to answer me this question....IS IT TRUE THAT THE ARCHERS HAVE THE MOST HARDEST CLASS THERE IS FOR GETTING XP AND LVLING BECAUSE ARCHERS CAN'T SOLO "I CAN'T SOLO WITH MINE BECAUSE I DIE ALOT UNLESS I BUY ALOT OF POTS AND STONES".i would like to put this as a vote but i don't know how so just do a quick reply with a yes or no. thx for your time Rundan

i've seen Mages Lure in Mobs too ^ ^
so don't be blaming all the archers..
it just depends on who the person really is ^ ^

ok is that why noone wants me in their party. I don't lure unless someone tells me to. I offer but if someone says no then i don't. But what pisses me off was i was in a KQ and i didn't get into a party until mid way. I was so mad because noone even said they were full. I was so tempted to just lure everything to us and let everyone die. But i didn't because i wanted the exp. Archers are one of my favorite classes now. I have a lvl 31 cleric and recently got an archer to lvl 22 and i find most to be annoying. But i would like 1 cleric in a mage or archer party. I am spr and dex build so i crit often. But when i just regular shoot and crit the monster comes to me and nature's protection takes a while to cool down, i need a heal because i don't have enough stones or hp. Another thing is that people always blame archers for the lureing mistakes. Someone in a Mara KQ lured the wrong marlone and brought 2 of them and they blammed me for it even tho i was afk for 40 seconds. I for one love the archer and try to help anyway i can. I think i am a good archer but i do know my limitation. Most archers need to realize that just because you can lure doesn't mean that is the only thing you can do. And i don't know why but not many people use actual bows at higher lvls. I personally like bows better than xbow.

Archers are fun but we can't do as much as you guys want us too but expect to little of us. In kq i promise you archers and mages do more damage than any class. We might not have very strong attacks but bleeding and poison does a good 200 damage total. added on to the other skills. My only complaint is that people always KS me. THey don't notice that the monsters life is going down. People always want to help archers like me but i don't actually need it so instead they just made and excuse to KS.

Archers do take alot of getting used to because there is cast time and long cooldown. They are stronger than you think but that is their downfall.

I would party with you but i am on teva. LOL Anyway that is what pisses me off and makes me happy.

It seems you've been encountering a lot of immature and rude people who play archers.
In all the games I play(ed), I'm always an archer when it's an option. Archers can be a difficult class in the beginning as our attacks are weak until we get skills. Leveling can take a while but I just find a nice spot where the monsters don't mob and start picking them off. With the skills it's easy to kill larger monsters from a distance without having to rely on pots so often...provided you rest a lot.

As for the behavior you wrote of...I could say the same for the other classes. Often I'll be in the middle of field all on my lonesome and killing when out of nowhere another class comes in for KS. I can't recall the last time a fellow archer has done that to me, often its a cleric or warrior. But I can see with an archer's range how it might be easy to KS but doing so is just lazy and rude. I have on occasion accidently started shooting someone elses target but only because we started at same time. Unless someone asks for assist I don't just start attacking someone else's target. As I do use range to help me, I take the time to see who's killing what if I'm in a busy field to avoid KSing.

I tend to solo hunt as I'm wary of randomly joining people...since they often use me to lure and then standing back leaving me to deal with a large monster with little total HP. As has been my experience. Or that many people I encounter are like the bad archers you've met. On the flip side when I want to party, I rarely get too due to views such as you've expressed. I solo a lot as hardly anyone asks for an archer to join them. Which is sad as one can't make friends in-game that way.

When used correctly we can be a great asset to a party. So don't disregard every archer you meet unless they start being all n00bie and rude.
Party me up anytime, show me that other classes aren't bad either ;)

What the...do have bad luck in meeting people or something? I've played with archers several times and they were all alright. Heck even in KQ they were awesome. Guess it just sucks to be you :-p

I'm happy to say that since I've posted this thread, I've had the pleasure to meet some really great Archers. And if the many mature and insightful posts in this thread is any indication there are still more out there that I haven't met.
