I think, against accidently deleting some character, or having a kid around deleting your character when you're on the toilet or something, you should have some delete protection.
Ideas
- When you click delete, a confirmation will be send to your email address
- When you confirmed character delete, your character will be deleted in 3 hours (so you have the time to change your mind and click cancel)

there is a protection(and didnt you post something lie this b4 lol >.>)
when you click delete, you must type in the exact name of the character you want to delete
so its kind of hard to accidently delete, or have a little kid do it

A time shift between clicking on "delete" and the deletion would be great. That a character higher than level X (maybe 50 for example) will be deleted X days (maybe 3 days or so) after the user clicked the button. Thats a very normal way how it works in most other mmorpg's.
.. in addition to the "type-the-character-name-in-function" ..

Perhaps a possible way to protect against unauthorized character deletion is to request the player to type in the password again before actually deleting the character? This way if a friend/relative who happens to mess around with your character when you are away from keyboard can not delete your characters unless you happen to tell them them password via account sharing >.>

Even better sent a e-mail confirmation and you need to reply before delete can occur.

even better you have to send a message to delete a char to all GMs and if all GMs don't receive the letter in the same time, your att3mp7 15 50 |?H41L

hm....how about....*doesnt have a clue*...click delete and uh...sumthing will happen xD
jks jks, here r my ideas
-click delete
-get email and password and character name
-in case u want 2 change ur mind, there'll b a 1hr time in case u want 2 change ur mind. cuz if its too long and ur in a rush...well...yeah, u get the point. and im guessing u wont hafta go 2 the washroom 4 an hour unless ur rly rly rly constipated >.>

I'm not sure an hour would make much of a difference. For example, if you're hacked, legitimately or otherwise*, it sometimes occurs when you are asleep or at school and one hour wouldn't be enough time to have your account reinstated.
*("otherwise" being along the lines of giving a psycho ex your info and s/he deletes your toons because s/he is scorned)

hm...ur right...i should get a secret mini comp tht i can fit in my pocket so in case some1 ish hacking me at school ill know :D and then it'll have an alarm when im sleeping...and...and....blah blah blah blah...*gettin off topic* blah blah

Or... Just take steps to ensure you don't get hacked. The biggest and most secure step is not telling someone else your info. :x
As for people changing their minds, I don't know that an hour would make too much of a difference as an impassioned deletion would probably still have lingering emotions an hour later. Perhaps a day or two would be better?

all of your ideas are very good but here is something. its a combination of character delation from "Cabal Online" and "Perfect world international."
when u press delete it shuld ask for your password.
then ask to type char name you want to delete
then after that the char goes into nonplaying mode for 7 days.
after 7 days the char is gone
thats how it is in perfect world except u dont hav to put in password. each character u delete wil stay in non-playing mode until u press restore or wait 7 days for them to disapear.;)

i think it should ask you for a pin to be able to delete your character , trade. things like that the pin cant be the same as the password you use to login to the game because they would be no point if someone has your game password

How about a separate password? Basically you sign up with your normal password, then when you start, there is a option for a 2nd password. This 2nd password could be used to delete char AND in addition; you have to know this 2nd password to open your storage.
So in order to delete a char, click delete, then you have to put in char name AND the 2nd password.
I said the storage idea cause I really like it, sure someone can hack your account, but gl guessing a 2ND password. lol. Yay? Nay? Any opinions on this?

I agree with these two ideas, the others make it way too much hassle to delete characters. Especially waiting 3 days <.< that really annoyed me in other games, especially if you've just made a character then decide you want it to look different or be a different class.
The OTT extra protection mentioned by others might be a good idea for, say, characters over level 30?

Or don't leave yourself logged in when you have to go afk for an extended period of time? And if you aren't sure if you want to delete one, how about not deleting it until you ARE sure?

Some titles require you to stay logged in, and what about vending? >.>

but a better idea is to have something like that so u dont have to waste your time logging off and logging back in again and somewhone could hack your account and delete all your characters what you gonner do then????

If your account gets hacked, the GMs can restore it. If someone does hack your account, they'd be doing it to steal your characters. Deleting them would make it worthless to the hacker. Think about it. Why would you take someone's account just so you could use it to start a new character? It'd be simpler to just start a new legit account and use that.
As for vending, yes vending is nice to do over night or while you're away. But if the computer is in an easily accessible room where anyone could come in and mess with it, why would you leave Fiesta running and unattended in the first place? If you know that there's a high possibility for someone to ruin your file and you give them the perfect opportunity to do it, then it's your own stupidity.

why are you even against this idea???

Hacking is not always going to be just to steal characters - a lot of the time it could be done with malicious intent, or to steal items/in game money/spark cash, the list goes on.
So, ok, you're saying we don't need extra protection because OS can restore deleted characters after being hacked - would it not be so much more simple to implement a system which offers additional protection against this?

we need a GM to view this and give his/her opinion...
