What you see happening to other clerics will also happen to you. In fact, it will start happening to you before you've gained Endure. Once you hit 40 and get that armor, weapon and shield, you look like a 47 cleric who can cast Endure. When you hit 50, it becomes plainly obvious that you can buff.
But you don't see everything that happens to buff-able clerics, only what takes place publicly when you're near them. When you leave to go do your thing and can't hear it anymore... they're still being begged for buffs.
When you're out hunting, oblivious to what your cleric buffer friend is up to... they're out hunting too. And people will stop by and beg buffs while the cleric is busy fighting. And guildmates. And friends.
When you're hitting town to restone and the cleric is staying behind (because clerics have remarkable staying power), they're being begged for buffs/rezzes by people passing by.
When the cleric is harvesting wood and herbs, archers kiting mobs will whiz by them... then whiz by again 7.8 seconds later to beg buffs. And on one occasion, I've had an archer whiz by a third time looking for a heal on top of it all.
Getting whispers for buffs is becoming more and more common. Getting whispered requests like 'rebuff 5 mins plz at SEG gate' are also becoming more common.
People following (as in, the action command auto-follow) you in town, spamming for buffs.
There are even people who expect buffs and get upset if you don't dish them out.
Now, if you can be callous enough to ignore buff and heal requests, or if you're warm-hearted and generous enough to give them out... it's not entirely as bad as it might sound. You'll eventually get used to it, or at least figure out how you're going to handle it. But I think for most clerics, there's frustration to one degree or another.

indeed, as soon as you can (or look like you can) buff you will be asked to by someone
it's not usually TOO bad but occasionally you will get the few people who forgot to learn any manners and will spam your whispers for buffs and etc. etc. I think that it has been established by most clerics that if people do things like that we won't buff them so most people have learned to at least say please and only ask once or twice. but there is always an exception.

Actually there are people yelling buff please in Slime Kingdom quest. So it seem buff please is the first word every player learn and second word seem plevel please and third word is money please.
Well actually these 3 kind of related. Without buff they dare not leave town to fight mob, so start looking for people to p-level. When p-leveled you lack money because of no drop form mob so need money. Without money, cannot buy good gear and need buff again.

Fixed cause most of them never learn "please".
But yeah, nice insight. Some people don't like to stand on their own two feet, and feel that higher level people are obligated to help without so much as a please or thank you.
I do usually try to be tolerant and helpful, but there are things that do annoy me;
I really hate it when people whisper me for a buff, because if I'm in Eld standing still chances are I'm already whispering people and having conversations, and they mess up my chat.
When people spam for buffs I sometimes end up just blocking them.
When people ask for buffs and keep freaking running or riding around you you can't click on them, and still expect to be buffed <_<

That... is just not normal ._. (But yeah, I've seen people ask for buff in Robo... and get mad if no one buffed them lmao ._____.)
My cleric is still level 40 and I always get asked for buff... always =_= (note: maybe wearing fiesta store clothes doesnt help much... but I leave the 34 boots on and visible so everyone sees I'm -44 D<)
And still... sometimes even my -archer- gets asked for buff... I mean wth... @_@
