I was wondering if some experienced lvl 30+ monks could discuss the pros and cons of the two options for a monk. I have seen many posts where people say, " shaloin is better cause the kill good, or Counter is better because they can block attacks", this is not what i am interested in. I would like to know how they do pvp, pve. Also how the skill compare between the two classes and also in pvp how the two classes do againts a varitey of classes ( i.g. priests, warriors, mages, rogues, archers). Thanks for the input :)

Shaolin is better because you can be super cheap and use Triple kick + Merciless strike + triple kick in a combo in pvp. Also their stat build is stronger. So yeah...

Does anyone have anything more constructive to say then this? This is the exact type of reply i wasn't looking for. I dont care about super cheap classes, infact i think they are lame. What i care about is a character that is FUN, CHALLENGEING, and not super bugged. thx for any further input.

Shaolin has the edge.

Apart from Dragon Kick and Cartilage Smash, the Counter's other skills are lacking in speed, range, and suffer from delays most of the key Shaolin skills do not. A counter may be punished easy for misses and for being blocked. A shaolin keeps moving, and is harder to hit even after initiating their combos.

This is not to say an effective counter player cannot perform as well as an effective shaolin player, the aforementioned two skills will allow you to pull off some extreme damage, but on their bad days, Shaolin players will shine brighter than Counter players. On their good days however, beware the Counter players, for they will certainly have one person down much quicker than your good Shaolin player.

Dragon kick, and cartilage smash match the the way that I play the monk class in general. Unbreakable is a useful skill aswell if you need to stay alive, such as in ctf when running from ppl while carrying the flag.

I've yet to test counterkick yet, or cartilage smash, but I have seen cartilage smash in action on myself.(and love it.)

Dragon kick is very useful for fighting jumpers, which is often the bane of my existence.

Honestly, i can say by experience it take more skill for a counter to beat a shaolin than a shaolin to be a counter. COunter are special in the sense that they have a trick up their sleeves for everything. Wether it is jump attacks, melee attacks, or even ranged/magic attacks. They can adapt to different types of situations and that si their forte. Now you need a lot of skill to be a counter. When your a counter your thinking; "Is he going to attack now or stop right in front of me and tick me so i counter and get killed". Yes, counter is for people who like to think more than 1 move ahead. I would say mastering a counter is more of an experience kind of thing. If you are able to successfully guess all of your opponents moves before being done, you have basically won. Now, if by any chance you assume and fail, well, that's your fall. For beginners, counter is very bad. You willr elly a lot of luck and get killed, for experienced players, this is a challenge.
P.S choose shaolin if you want to think less or choose counter if you feel you can predict you opponents moves easily.

Shaolin's are easier to control than counters, but counters are more effective if you know how to use them. One bad thing about counters is that they made it so dragon kick isn't a aoe which is seriously messed up. The only reason you would fly so far, spend so much mp, and have a long cool time is if it were an aoe o_0

Counters are usually a more skilled class than Shaolin in that it takes skill to percieve what your opponent will do. Usually, when I play my counter, I have to stay alert to the game, know when to hold 'em, fold'em, and counter the heck outta them. I use the dragon kick for counterblows in the air, as I think it was designed for, but I feel that Counters are super weak against magic. You cant really counter magic as a counter. So, I usually stick to the warriors and other monks unless you have a good sense of seeing an invisible rogue and knowing when to counter (btw which is the BEST thing to ever do, to see their faces after you stopped them!!!) so, counters are a very versatile group... hope this helped ^^

counters arent a good choice for beginners. 1 wrong counterattack, the counter takes a crapload of damage- but when there is good counterattack and the right timing to counter, they can easily destroy their opponent.
Shaolins just dart around and do bits of damage to their selected target.
Monks can find invisible rouges easily with the weakness detection move, but if there is a miss, it takes forever to cooldown.

It all comes down to,if u know how 2 use ur class,ur skillz. You must know the effect of each skill, the range of each skill,if the skill is AoE or not,The duration of the skill(iThink this is most important to chain combos)
