Im just about to start in about 20min (download time) and i was going to try this class first,i want to know somethings about it,in most other games ive played mages always end up haveing bad def ans str but if you work on them they have the strongest attacks,i wanted to know if its still like that and i also want to know about builds i should use.

Anyway, yes, they can't take two hits from most enemies, their burst damage is good, but cool down and SP cost is enormous. The main tactic is blast away before an enemy steps in front of you.
Builds are toss-ups between INT and SPR. I personally find lots of INT with some SPR the most sensible combo, but that's just me.
Skill empowering is pretty simple too. Just up Damage for the strong spells and decrease Cool Down for the quick spells (or long ones, if that's what you want). Don't bother with SP costs, you'd make spells more efficient with damage upgrades anyway.
If it's your first character, I'd recommend Potion and Scroll production skills. You'll need them both, and they make some good cash, too.
