Xen Stones

Is there a trick behind Xen Stones?

I have encountered 7 xens in this past year of playing and i still havent found any trick.
is there some sort of amount of monsters you have to kill before one will apear?
or is it a just a rare jewel that pops up on random maps?

any answers would be nice, and very helpful

Pops up random on any maps, any mobs, anytime.

It's totally random, just like ALL drops.
