as stated above, if they do pls direct me there thankies ^^

maint notes are details regarding what is being fixed, what is being added or removed.

They do when they add/fix something big... Which didn't happen today?
-cough-

Last notice with added info was... Cap raise?
And Cash Shop updates, of course ;)

yeah, they should announce it before maintainence.

Their maintenance/patch notes omit some details too, I've noticed.

If they did a maintenance, they probably didn't just shut down the servers for 2 hours for nothing. Why they can't tell us what did they exactly do? Even it's like... 'Fixed the hair problem that male fighters had'. Dx
I feel so disappointed when I only read Maintenance is finished bla bla bla. ;.;

er it probably was server backups, database pruning and cs items additions, nothing to write about.

Oh man I just posted something like this, I didn't see your post. Guess I'm not the only one missing the list of things that were fixed the previous night...

*facepalm*

You should know that by know not every maintenance has a patch.

If it was just maintenance then why take down servers? I can run a backup of a database in MS SQL, MySQL or Oracle without closing connections to the database. Now I'm not sure what datastore they are using for the game however, seeing as their site is in PHP they are probably using a LAMP configuration so it's probably MySQL Enterprise. Just an educated guess, could be wrong.

mmmm

This is not a little application you have there. I don't think they would use MySQL ._.

It's probably not only databackup, but as I don't work there, I wouldn't exactly. But I know that where I work, every night, we kick users from servers for data backup and run our nightly programs.

It's been like that for nearly 2 years, and people still ask ?

Can't you just sit tight for 2 hours a week ? Is it too much to ask before people start jumping at OS throat ?

I'm asleep while they do maintenance as it happens at like 4 in the morning, and I have to go to work at 7. So why do you think they wouldn't use My SQL?

I write software for the government and none of my programs are "little programs" and some of them use My SQL.

Then why the whining ?

MySQL seems to me a little easy for a game that is browsing millions of data at each instant, but then, it might be just me.

Facts are : they are closing down the connections to the game weekly since the launch of Fiesta, in June 2007.

Some weeks, there is patchs, some not. When there is patchs, Silky post the details of it. When there is no patchs, Silky doesn't post the details of a none-existent patch.

End of story.

I'm not "whinning", just asking a question, which I believe I have the right to do. Unfortunately, I get answers from people like you who believe they know everthing becuase they've been playing since closed beta.

Here's what Silky said in his/her post.

Hello Fiesta players,

Server maintenance was completed at 12:05AM PDT.

All servers are now open. Thank you for your patience during the down time.

-Outspark Staff.

No where in there does it say "This was just a data backup" so it leaves you guessing what happened. Did they update bugs, add new items, etc. All I'm saying is it would be nice to know why the game was down. Is that too much to ask? Here's an example

Now I know, great, thanks.

Oh now I know the attitude, just checked your profile, you're french. That answers the attitude. Don't worry I won't hold it against you..

LOOOOOOOOL

I'm tired of people bashing OS for everything they don't know.

And no, I didn't play since OB, but I'm following the forums enough to know now, how the maintenances work.

You were asking for update lists. As there wasn't any update, I don't see HOW could have OS gave you any. I don't know it's just common sens. They have enough things to deal with already, without having to spell out for you everything they do. Especially when it's a weekly thing.

Oh, and I see from the profile that you are married to LadyMarian. Is it the same LadyMarian, french too, that plays on Bijou ?

Nope, don't play on Bijou.

I don't know.

For me, the facts that there is or isn't an thread announcement in the news section and an add on the Fiesta Website is enough.

But then, that's just me.

Apparently, you need more, so why not send a ticket to the support asking for the GM responsible of the posting of the maintenances' informations to write out the fact that's it's a weekly routine maintenance without any patch ?

It was announced on the forums before the servers went down that this would be a routine maintenance. Routine implies that nothing new or exciting is coming.

They release an announcement for each maintenance and when things are changed/added/removed from the game they generally post it in the maintenance notes.

That said, they don't even have to do this, according to the ToS we all signed, they are not required to give us any information regarding changes to the game.

10) Service Update or Notice of Change

Outspark reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to change, modify, add to, supplement or delete access policies, the availability of any feature of the Outspark Service, hours of availability, content, data, software or equipment needed to access the Outspark Service, effective with or without prior notice. However, material changes to the Outspark Services (as determined at Outspark's discretion) will be disclosed prior to or subsequent to such changes.

MySQL is great and easy for "smaller" applications, but when you're talking a couple hundred million rows in a table, you're going to run into problems.

PostgreSQL is far more stable under a huge load, though you still have to ensure you have sufficient resources for concurrent database connections.

Of course, the leader in databases (imho) is Oracle. 200 million records a day for it is a piece of cake (speaking from experience), and it also handles row-level locking, as well as table partitioning, which facilitates concurrency and data backup/cleanup, respectively.

I could delve into a lengthy technical discussion as to the drawbacks of MySQL when used for large databases, but I don't think that would be appropriate for this thread. Needless to say, MySQl would not be my first (or second, or third, ...) choice for an MMO.

Sigh, I'm going to leave this thread rot in the corner~ @ Chaola; I'm so sorry I'm not into computers that much, oh please forgive me <3 I don't really care about your fancy lil' programs that make uber lovey dovey maintenances, I was just saying my opinion. I guess telling your own point of view is forbidden.

Of course, it's not.

Let's take your post :

If they did a maintenance, they probably didn't just shut down the servers for 2 hours for nothing. Why they can't tell us what did they exactly do? Even it's like... 'Fixed the hair problem that male fighters had'. DxI feel so disappointed when I only read Maintenance is finished bla bla bla. ;.;

I can't seem to stress the point enough : they didn't do anything.

When there is a patch, we DO get the list of things fixed/added/etc

Ex :

http://outspark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=196847
http://outspark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=195551
http://outspark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194624

We had already complained about the patchs threads being too incomplet, and they did do great efforts in there to give us the list of the fixed/added/atc stuff.

Sorry if I sounded rude, it wasn't my intention, but I'm more than a little tired of this free OS bashing, when they make efforts.

And I'm the first to complain when something is wrong.

And thank you both for insulting me and my nationality.

You're right Oracle is probably the best to handle millions of transactions however, it is so ungodly expensive to maintain. Licensing, DBA's, etc. I only suggested MySQL as they are using PHP and apache for their website so it was just a guess, but you're more than likely right it isn't MySQL for the game. It would be interesting to know what they are using. We used MSSQL for a ecommerce web site that I developed and that was getting 10 million hits to the site a day. Would be interesting how other db's would perform under that load.
