Fast exp = grinding for hours. That's the cold hard truth. Sparkcash boost items are optional, and very helpful.
The acolyte class pretty much needs a party to level. So I would rank that at the slowest.
The apprentice class can solo, but I hear it's pretty slow.
The neophyte and disciple class are pretty much even - they level at a moderate pace (can solo or party) until level 66 when they both get their AoE skill, and then they're set for life. However, disciple is slower because they have to be an acolyte for 45 levels first.
The squire class can AoE at a pretty early level, making it faster to gain exp compared to other classes at the same level.
The scout class can solo straight from level 0 to 180. I feel this is the fastest leveling class.
Just my opinion.
The best strategy depends on what class you are.
If you're a tank AoE class (rogue, disciple, squire), get your AoE skill and aoeaoeaoe your brains out.
If you're an apprentice/scout, solo or party, and then assist aoe places, or solo in hard maps.
If you're an aco, find a high level aoe partner. ;)
And for any class, experience boosts from the sparkcash store are helpful, as are the 7% death pendants so you don't lose any exp from dying. If you're really into sparkcash, there are some items that help out lower levels. Check the stats on things and compare their stats to your normal armor.

Well, from 1-16, you'll be in the forgotten lake, if you choose to not do the [lame] beginning quests. That's the only place you can go, until level 10, when you'll enter the Trisects instead of the Forgotten Lake.
You can either hunt in the map right outside Brynhild [Trisects], or go just a few maps further. The monster's names should NOT be red to you; you'll die.
Monsters with white names are your level; if they are slightly blue or gray, then they are below your level. Until level 30, just hunt in the places around Brynhild or Essene; you'll know which map to hunt on. Don't spent 10 minutes killing one monster; spend ten minutes killing ten monsters. Exp is really fast in the beginning.
After level 30, you might want to go to Candyvault with a party, or just go further outside Brynhild/Essene. After level 40, you can get to Eir, but I don't think you should fight there solo.
It's been AGES since I've been low level...so...sorry if anything I just typed is wrong. xD

Taney has some good suggestions, and here's a few more:
Level 10-24: Hunt Pangya one map west of Essene. They drop items called Guard's Report, and at level 17 you can talk to the NPC Guard at the north gate of Essene to activate this quest. They give a small amount of experience and Kron, but the enemies are easy and you only need 60 defence to take 1 damage.
Level 25-30: First, go talk to the Merchant Jikey (in Essene) and activate the level 20 and 25 food quests. Walk two more maps west of Essene (Trakian Path) and you will find Giant Poyo Poyo and Big Kubby; hunt these two enemies constantly to collect a large sum of Cheese, Tangerines, Butter, and Salt, and gain decent experience and possibly find decent gears for your class.
Level 31-35: In Essene talk to the Skill Master (the old man in blue robes) and activate the Book of Skill quest. Walk one more map west of Essene (Malian Forest) and hunt Guron to collect a Book of Skill. The experience you get from this repeatable quest is pretty good, as well as 1200 Kron for each book you turn in. You will also find Grapes and Aloes out here, which are important for the pet quest (if you don't feel like doing the quest you can always sell them to other players for fast great cash!) At level 35 Guron will give you exactly 0.3% per kill, which may not seem like much, but expect levelling to slow down anyways and remember to keep getting those Book of Skill.
Level 36-40: In Essene go to the Alchemist Lab and talk to the Enchanter to activate the Fix the Broken Wand quest. Warp to CandyVault and walk one map south (Berdana Forest) and hunt Pig as they will drop up to 10 of Hydrin, Cloren and Hellyn which are important for making your level 35 class specific accessory. The other enemies here give decent experience as well, and Halloween Moonbears sometimes drop Wood or Leather, which are used for the pet quest or traded for lots of money or items, plus you can find Strawberries and maybe even good gears.
Just a few more suggestions for you.

That depends on your playing style, really.
Are you someone who likes to do things on your own, or do you enjoy the company of others?
At level 50 you have several option on where to train, but remember that levelling slows down considerably, especially if you don't use experience boosts. If you party you have a better chance at surviving in harder maps, though if you prefer to be alone then try to stick to maps where the enemies' names are white.
