It is very rude to use it as an insult. It's pretty demeaning to call someone that, when you probably don't know them at all. Noob is commonly defined as someone that "knows better, but refuses to cooperate with common sense". This could be anywhere from disregarding the fact that everyone else has earned what they've received, and they wish to have free hand-outs.. or to the person that'll harass anyone that is doing something they wish to be doing (hunting in a specific spot, etc).
In any case.. yes it's very rude. And I certainly frown upon people calling others this name, even if it seems like it's called for, because it's not. Learn to act a bit more maturely, to all you people out there insulting others!

Honestly...Noob has to be the weakest Retardest Insult to ever EVER use and is only said by people who don't know a single English word or have the I.Q of 1..But That is if it is used Meaning ~ You stupid idiot
The Other meaning Is a entirely new player, a Beginner and to use that on a "newbie" is a cruel thing to do..Just think back to when you were Starting you cant Be Pro From the first second of the game.

I agree, calling someone a noob is pretty rude. I'm not too impressed by nub, etc. either. However, if people could stick to the original meaning of newbie, then it wouldn't be rude and derogatory. I think it's really all context and it's pretty sad that being new to a game is an insult...
We're all newbs at some point after all.

Hell yea it's rude. Why would you call someone a noob? You were also a noob once. Why not just help the person. Sure it will take a few minutes of your time, but you know for a fact that you did it too, in this game or other games that you've played.

Deathchip, you ROCK! LOLIRL!!!!!!!!!
As for the original question, one should refrain from intentionally insulting anyone. However, as we all know, there are those who are simply asking to be schooled in the fine art of verbal defamation and denoucnement. Especially those who, even once in their miserable lives, use "l33t" speak. Who the hell am I, R2-D2? I can't understand what you're sayng, but it sounds to me like you want me to PK you and steal your gear. Ok, you're the boss!

/agree comic pretty much explains it all lol. Point being said best way to handle a noob is to ignore him. to argue, party, chit-chat and come into contact only helps fuel the fire. as for newbs i had the hardest damn time getting past the first lvl in this game (talked to the wrong npc and was like ***) anyway i figured it out on my own common sense. none the less newbies rock means one day they could even help you out.

Rude i don't think so. I guess if you use it just to be mean but to me there are two different kinds of noobs. I guess i should come up with a new word for one but its all about how you use it.
Good noob: New person who dosen't know better. Ask a question they could maybe figure out them selfs but just can't seem to do it. All around meaning a new person who knows nothing better and dosen't understand.
Bad noob: A person who is new and wants every thing handed to them. They act all unmature like; Spamming the chat board, Asking dumb questions, Asking questions again and again, typeing random **** on the boards, or been all around annoying.
I really only use noob when some one is been annoying or not even playing along the right way. Some one who acts like a bad noob should be called a noob. I guess it be a good idea to make new words for good noobs and be ones like. Newb for good ones and noob for bad ones..mm..don't know. I still say if your annoying and just want free hand outs then your a NOOB!! if you don't like been called that then level up and stop been annoying

Whatever happened to newbie? Newbie was before "noob" and it is in refrence to someone who is completely new to something. Noob was derived from newbie, or newb for some, and is used in refrence to those who know better but act like an inexprience person just to gain items, weapons, currency, ect. and who annoy people. ~_~ How noob became the term for both a new person and a fool is beyond me. Noob is just insulting. And nub is just as worst because its yet another form of the insulting version... not to mention it's "cool" to make up new spellings for shorthand anyways. *rolls eyes*
