I have typed these words, and randomly it says it's a bad word and filters it, yet other times it does not do anything.

you probably didn't pay attention enough to what was filtered, as I had the same problem and it clearly seemed the word-filter was kind of... primitive/brute-force...
like, it will remove the letters x, e and s from words placed like so:
"the settlement'S EXploration team"... Most likely, the things got removed because of this word-filter... now, I agree a word-filter like this is actually needed, but... well, its a little over extreme in this case... I guess the word-filter would need to become smarter, overlooking cases like these unless words like these actually 'jump into sight'.
That being, they stand by themselves or are bolded/capitalized on purpose as in the example (although here i just cap'd them to point out what I was meaning), or are just spaced using miscellaneous whitespace characters (including varieties like s_e_x and s'e'x and s.e.x (just for example) :P
On the other hand, this word isn't really special enough to warrant filtering in the final version... it is, however, a convenient test-example to actually test out the word-filter... =]

I was on a game once that had no word filter it was horrible. People were saying things I wish I could forget. I definetly agree a word filter is needed. Though by the sounds of things this one still needs a little tweaking.

hmm yea the word filter blocked out some letters when I sometimes use the word "expire" (it blocked the letters "expi" in the word for some reason)...
