What Are Some Advantages and Disadvantages to Prince Edward Island's Isolation?

Prince Edward Island people were opposed to building a bridge to connect it to Canada. What are advantages and disadvantages of keeping Prince Edward Island isolated from the rest of Canada?

I've heard there are lots of potatoes on the island.

Potatoes = Win.

Contamination of potatoes = bad.

Though on a more serious note. A bridge to the island could mean more traveler's/tourists to the island, which can lead to more business and money for the businesses there. And that in itself would boost the islands economy. But living in a place that is usually overrun with tourists all the time, I know that they can get a bit annoying.
