ok am having some trouble with my pc. it will not startup.
when i press the power button the Dell logo pops up but loads up waaay slower than it normaly did. and second after the long load up it pops up a screen that says "press F1 to continue or F2 to enter setup" and on the bottom of that screen it says "disket drike 0 seek failure."
it always had that screen, not the long loading logo though but after i have had it for a year it kept poping up that screen and when i pressed F1 it would start up and i culd log on. it been like that for a year or so.

the story now is that not only the Dell logo takes way to long to load but when i press F1 it doesnt start up. instead it brings another screen that says " no boot divice detected plz insert boot disk and press F1 or press F2 for setup.

now first of all after all i have done and looked i think the problem might be inside the pc. som1 told me to open up the side and unplug all the cables that are conected to the drives, wait like 30 mins then plug em back and power the pc on. it didnt work.i dont know what to do, i tried contacting dell but they wont even tell me what the problem is unless i pay them $300, they usualy dont have the answer to anything and they wuld then ask me to pay an extra like $100 to send them the pc so they culd "fix it". but of course they are jst scammers they wuld temporaly fix it then i'd have the same problem agin.

does any1 know what to do?
plus my dad says helz no way he is gonna pay those cheaps.
so i neeed ur help OS players. i dont know where else to look.

PC manufacturer:Dell
PC: Dell dimension E521 windows vista home basic.

well thats my pc.
and if u r wondering how i posted this am on my friends pc.

Sort of sounds like something went haywire with your Operating System, although I'm not really too techy with software/operating systems. I'm better at taking things apart XD. You may have to do a system recovery, but I'd suggest gathering more information and opinions before resorting to that.

bottom of that screen it says "disket drike 0 seek failure."

This message is indicative of a hard drive that's right on the edge of failing.

Yep. I've run "ready to die any second now" hard drives before, and they can last forever- or die at any moment. I ran a drive that was behaving in the same way for a year and a half. Eventually it did precisely what yours appears to have done.

says " no boot divice detected plz insert boot disk and press F1 or press F2 for setup.

That's the BIOS pretending to be Star Trek's Dr. McCoy, telling you "The hard drive's dead, Jim."

The way to verify this is to remove the hard drive from your machine, install it in another that's working okay (temporarily replace the good machine's hard drive with your own suspect unit) and see what happens.

If your drive will boot up another machine but not yours, the problem is elsewhere (I'd suspect on the motherboard itself, likely a problem with the hard drive controler). If another computer behaves the same way using that drive, then it's confirmed: that hard drive is now little more than a paperweight.

And before you ask, yes- if the drive is in fact dead, everything on it is effectively gone. There are services that can recover data from such drives- but the prices for this are enough to be scary. They're largely aimed at businesses facing the loss of a month's payroll and billing data, where the potential loss outwieghs the recovery price.

I'm comfortably 90% certain this is your problem- as to my own references, I've built 5 computers of my own, 4 for friends, 6 for employers, and troubleshot/maintained all those and easily twice as many more.

Any nearby computer store be it local or a big chain, or online from someplace like NewEgg dot com. Check Yellow Pages (online or physical) for "Computers- Parts & Repair" should point you to likely stores in your area for a nearby location. (As in someplace you can run and grab one now, rather than waiting for shipping.)

grummin is correct...the issue is with your hard drive. I would recommend going to any local computer retail store or going online to buy a good hard drive.
