using fast weapon with STR build?

do i understand correctly that bonus from STR is added to every hit as opposed to damage per second? If its true then having fast weapon that does more hits per second will benefit STR builds much more?

Basically yes.

But the difference between the basic damage in 1h and 2h weapons (with their speed) is so big that only a very long lasting fight would make the 1h weapon win at dmg.

for DD 2handed is weapon of choice, i was thinking choice between 2h sword and axe. Generally axe is better, who needs the little exta aim, but STR build might actually benefit more from sword
