What does Taunt do?

I'm just getting into KQing and I was wondering what taunt did? It seems like a lot of people find it pretty important.

Also, what skills are good to use Skill Points in? I have 5 Skill Points and I need to know what's best to use them in. I'm a lvl.12 Fighter, btw.

Taunt = increase threat level.
It means that the monster you used it on will ignore everyone and everything and will attack you and only you.
As for the skill points, its good to experience these things yourself.

Thanks, I didn't know what threat level was. :D

I figured as much about the skill points, but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? It's my first character and I'm not too experienced yet. :(

taunt puts the mobs aggro on you useful for a tank, pity there is very few tanks in the game.
