Griff groaned and collapsed. The moment his head hit the bed, he winced. What kind of practice could do this to a person? Helmphite really hadn't given him a break at all.
Griff had originally thought that getting training from Helmphite would make him the best fighter he could be. Now, he wished he would have listened to everyone's warnings. He remembered his conversation with his brother, Caleib.
"Griff, think this over." He had warned. "It might not be such a good idea to take lessons from her. You know how hard she is!"
Griff had rolled his eyes and tossed the comments aside. "Oh relax, bro. I'm tough. You know I am! And besides, I have you to heal me if I take too many hits."
Caleib had taken on that look of sadness, the one that Griff hated so much. "I'll be training in Roumen with Julia, remember? You'll be over in Elderine."
Griff hadn't thought about that. "Oh, right," he murmered. "But, theres always Avon, isn't there?"
Caleib rolled his eyes. "He charges too much, remember? Neither of us can afford his healing,"
Griff, being the stuborn person he was, had replied, "Well, I've already decided what I want, and I'm not going to change that!"
He wished he could take back those words. Never have said them. He wished he would have known what he was getting himself into. He should have gotten rid of the letter he had sent while he had the chance, destroy the envelope and burn the contents. Now, it was too late. Caleib was right. He really shouldn't have gone to Helmphite.
He'd heard more experienced warriors complain about her, but he'd always asumed they were just being wimps. Now he understood how wrong he was.
But of course, Griff had already started training; he couldn't quit now. That would give him a bad reputation. No, he would continue, endure. He wouldn't give up.
Okay, I know it's short, but this is just an intro chapter. I'm going to do one for Caleib, too.
Please tell me how you like this so far.
