I died in a party. We were in BH, and I had hung back trying to stay out of the way and avoid spawns. I was near an archer in our party when two Marlone...things...came toward me. I fell back, thinking they were heading for her and intending to provide support, but they followed me. I then thought that it would be best for me to run towards the fighter(s?) in the party so that they would (hopefully!) taunt the things into going for them instead of me.
But no. I didn't make it that far. I fell to the ground just as the fighter called out, "HEAL!" Which I gladly would have done, had I not been trying to get away from the things chasing me...or dead. Normally, I'm not afraid to take things on, but if I was fighting it would be difficult to keep an eye on the other four people in the party, plus my own steadily decreasing HP bar.
This is the second or third time it happened. The first time it happened, it was pretty much the same scenario. Except I was in Sea of Greed with a female fighter who was very good about taking on the things that were attacking me, allowing me to focus on healing her. I lasted much longer in that small party (which expanded to one more person before I died) than in the one I had been in.
I probably should have communicated with the rest of the party better while in BH. :( I didn't know where everyone in the party was, or whether they were archer, mage or what. I think I might have been the only cleric, which sort of made me uncomfortable since a decision had been made to take on all the strong mobs.
I feel like such a failure for having died in a party like that and would really like to keep from going down like that again.
Any of you other clerics have suggestions or pointers to give me on partying effectively? What kind of agreements/deals have you made while in a party? (FYI: I didn't have any buffers besides Protect and Resist because I hadn't intended to head into Marlone territory... I just wanted to fight some Baby Bats and Grave Robbers. ^^; But I couldn't leave the party to fend for themselves...it seemed mean...)

just focus on the tank. if the rest of the members of the party run to somewhere else, call them back in ur party chat. if they don't return, just leave them be.

Yes, i do.. I forewarn my parties.. keep the mobs, cause if they hit me, i cant heal you. I know sounds logical to us, but it makes it click in their brains too.
I have partied with a couple people today.. no joke 30s-40s that act like noobs, cant tank, dont taunt. I have lost over 3K exp in about an hour.... THEN they have the gal to quit my team because they "almost" died when i took the mob on and died to protect them. *sigh* needless to say i tore them a new one before I decided to solo and did better myself.

I guess I just try to do too much. ^^;;

Hmmm...Didn't you decrease the heal's Cooltime? If you didn't you better start to decrease the heal's Cooltime now. It's pretty helpful to the clerics because well, you heal faster! =D Anyways, if the fighter is tanking a group of monsters while you got attacked by one or two monsters, heal yourself first, then you heal the fighter. Or, get a friend who's a cleric/high cleric to join your party. That way, it's much easier for you to heal yourself while a friend heals a fighter. =D How do I know all this? I'm a cleric myself and don't give up, you're not a failure. =D

I did decrease the cool time. :D A lot of my skill empower points went into that. ^^ But ... I think I need to get it lower. ^^;
And don't worry, I won't give up. ^^ That's why I'm here! I want to improve. :D

Well that's great. Then keep improving and you'll be fine. :D I'm playing this game about 3 or 4 weeks and I'm level 31 :D Kinda quick for me as a cleric, but it's my pace ^^" You don't have to be level up that quick, unless your a psycho who wants to play 24/7 xD Anyways, have fun and be yourself :D

Stay in your comfort zone. Don't go into places that will polish you off quickly or be with people who won't help you. If you can, try joining a party with another cleric that can rev you and is willing to help you out. I was in a party in Marla, and the only way I survived is there was a nother cleric. We watched out for each other and split the party up as far as who got healed by who.

Use stones, hotkeyed, (q) to heal yourself if being attacked while you're healing the tank, or potions. The restorative items don't generate any threat like using your heal skills do, is easier for other players to take back aggro from you that way. Also, if you click on the stone icon (as opposed to using Q), it switches the target away from the tank, to yourself.

How to survive in tough situations....
Well, for starters, bear in mind that eventually you are going to grab aggro. If you're fighting in any area, you'll need to be sure that between skills and stones at minimum, you'll be able to heal yourself enough to recover yourself when attacked. If you can't outheal more than one enemy at a time, then either the tank needs to be aware of that (if they're higher level than you then this might not be as much of an issue), or you need to not be there.
In a pinch, bear in mind that Recover cast on top of your heals might push you over the edge of survival and death, and if you get into difficulties, then the invincible spell can be used on either yourself or your ward, giving you the time needed to handle the situation.
In the end of the day, one of the many skills needed to be a good cleric is to realise that self-sacrifice isn't always the best option, especially if you're the only cleric. A good knowledge of enemy aggro range, where you can run to zone them, and where you can stay to escape notice of that train that just wiped everyone out, until it runs home again.
The cleric is the most survivable class, if you can't survive in an area, you can't stay in that area.
Another key part to aiding party survival is understanding, if not performing, clanking (cleric tanking). A cleric with aggro, in full self-heal mode, can keep aggro off any other character, even a tank using kicks and taunts to try and take the enemy off you. In some cases, keeping aggro is exactly what you want, in others, especially dangerous areas, or when you're running out of SP, you really want to lose it.
To lose aggro, either you must stop healing with skills, and rely on pots and stones, or, if there are other clerics in the group, you must depend upon them for healing entirely. If the tank is a good one, they should be trying to take mobs off you. If they aren't, as someone suggested already, remind them that if you're being mobbed yourself, you aren't going to be healing them.
In the end, don't be afraid to pelt it. If everyone's dying or dead, the cause is lost and you're looking at a TPK, it's going to be the cleric who has to survive and sneak back to res everyone, and let's be honest, losing XP sucks, don't do it if you can avoid it.
