Hey guys I figured something out by just being curious, I was thinking about firewalls and how somethings can't get by and etc...LISTEN UP! I always have the firewall on and well the game gives that 'connection to server has failed' error. Okay so I scratched that off and turned my firewall off (it all depends on the type you have). I turned it off and ran the game, I got into the servers fine and managed to create my character which is awesome!
*What I tell you is a theory, though it works on mine;*It can be a risk to some of you unless you're sticking to just the game.
My firewall: Symantec Client Firewall program.
Mine might differ from most of you, but try this...turn off your firewalls for temp to see if the game runs smooth. If it does then you may have to turn it off to play, hopefully the Devs can look into this
