Hello. In my opinion it would be nice if a set of hashes was posted for the solstice client downloads. For example MD5, SHA-1 and SHA-256.
Perhaps with a link to a free checksum utility to calculate the hash on the client side with a few simple instructions.
The reason is this: I believe it would simplify diagnosing start up complications and such. This will assist in identifying causes for install problems. Factors such as anti-virus software , Spyware, Worms, Firewalls, Erratic connection issues, Driver problems and a plethora of other factors would be more apparent if user's had a way to prove the download wasn't modified in transit somehow. That way when providing user support, In the User, Data, Application, System troubleshooting model, we can PROVE and eliminate "data" as a cause for any problems. We Then can focus on other things such as actual system problems.
Many times a re-download and reinstall is suggested for which there it seems in many cases there is no valid basis to recommend such an action. Empowering the community and end users to verify the download is valid would expedite support in several ways by creating a streamlined way of thinking about and approaching support while eliminating invalid support options while emphasizing the true underlying causes for several problems.
