View Full Version : Your Cleric Build, Your Philosophy

I was just reading the post of a full endurance cleric, and it became perfectly clear to me that they had a very different idea of how they wanted to play their cleric, and how I played mine.

This interested me, so.... How do you build your cleric? What do you boost? And.... Why? What is it you try to do with your cleric, and how does your build help you do that?

I'll start.

Current Level: 45
Current Stats: 30 Endurance, 20 Spirit
Skill Empowerments: 5 Points each into Heal SP consumption and cooldown, 5 points into Bash Damage, 4 points into Bash cooldown. 3 points spare, waiting on the other skills being fixed. Strongly tempted to slide a final point into Bash cooldown and drop SP consumption now the cash shop's open, and we might finally be getting skill point resets.
Weapon: Mace.

For Kholai, the primary consideration to start with was the idea that he would always be backed up by, and be backing, a mage. Originally, this mage, the Famous Maiya, liked to tank, so boosting Heal was the number 1 priority to keep her alive. On the rare events that Maiya did not like to tank, which included everywhere that I didn't like to tank either, so I learned clanking, and went from a supportive, heal-monkey who occassionally hit things, to a grumpy battle-ape.

When in a normal party, I have a two-cleric mentality. One cleric hangs back and concentrates on healing, the other cleric moves forward, to take a few mobs off the tank, to add some extra damage and to be ready to back up and start healing in an emergency.

Outside of a two cleric party, I'm willing to stand back and serve as a backline cleric in places where constant heals are needed, but it's honestly less fun for me; I'm a front-line cleric, I like manipulating aggro, dishing out the hurt and taking hits for squishies when I clank, I like standing right next to the tank and pulling off regular criticals and Bash combos when I don't clank, and I'm always ready to take on anything that spawns when the tank is busy, because I know that I can hold it until they're done.

So what about you? How do you play/build your cleric and why?

I'm about the same, Kholai.

Level 36, currently +25 END, +16 SPR.

Going to 20 SPR for now, then I'll evaluate once again and decide on either END or SPR once again. I'm sure I'll end up with +25 SPR like most, but I do enjoy my END. It really helps survivability in tough scenarios, and makes soloing orange/red mobs a lot easier, albeit slow as hell. :)

I dislike full END for the sole reason that we simply don't NEED it. I was able to survive tanking a single harkan at level 30, AND keep my tank healed while they tanked 2-3 others. (We'll not mention the fact that mock could be used to make this easier. lol)

My skill empowers:

5 points - Bash Power
5 points - Bash SP reduction
5 points - Heal SP reduction

I KNOW..SHUT UP! ^_^

Next 5 are going to heal cooldown. :)

I was originally going to try something skewed like 3:1 or 4:1 END/SPR but stopped once I started getting a somewhat decent level (nearly 36 now.)

I was something like 24/8 in early levels, and quite successfully tanked Slime/Mara/GoldenHill multiple times. After I found I don't need the endurance as much I wanted to round out the stats and it's currently about 1.8:1 END/SPR.

I still enjoy tanking, I bought 2 Blue Quality high END/SPR rings and have a pretty nice health pool/defense for my level.

5 Points SP on heal
5 Points Cooldown on heal
5 Points Duartion on invincible
1 Point SP on bash
Other points being held off - unsure as to where I'd like to put them next. I'm thinking Bash some more, but I don't use it much, my high Def leaves me in no rush to down whatever I'm tanking, stuff mostly tickles me.

I enjoy healing in this game, and I also enjoy tanking, so it works well all around. Sometimes I like to sit back in a group and auto-attack/heal, other times I'll tank, other times I'll strictly heal - this is usually when the group I'm with isn't exactly...competent.

I just made lv25. At this point i have 20 in spr and 10 in end. My character primarely focuses on healing and keeping people alive. Definetively not frontline.. but if the people I'm partying with aren't taking too much mob damage I'll run up and help them kill while healing.

As for skill empowerment
5 sp on heal
5 cooldown on heal
2 duration on invincible (currently bringing this to 5)

My playing style is very simple, Survive.

I like to play a supportive role in parties so I can just stand back and let the tanker and damage dealer do theirs and I keep them alive.

My build allows me to tank most blows a few times until the tanker takes the load off my shoulders and I use a stone to heal myself and devote my healing magic on my comrades instead.

There are times when I find myself doing tanking work and I am more then capable to rise up to the challenge though not perfect but good enough.

I usually find myself in a party where I am the only cleric available so high speed casting of heal is helpful and my HP and Defence helps me survive a few stray monsters until the tank is able to do a mock or kick whichever is needed.

I'm doing a full END build with all of my points devoted on Endurance and use Strength Rings to improve my low damage output.

I don't really care about skill builds, I maxed out my Heal Empowerment on Decrease SP and Cooldown and did 3 points of damage and maxed out Decrease SP on Bash.

I usually do Heal > Restore > Heal combos when dealing with boss fighters, and maybe i'll pick up Rejuvenate to add tot he chain when I have enough money.

37 cleric, my build is as follows:

str +5 (points from job change for fun)
end +21
Spr +16

i was doing a 2:1 end:spr build but since i have been partying more in guild i have been pumping spr to slightly increase my sp, my crit (usually in higher lvl areas than me so if i do get mobbed i can do a little more dmg until the tank can get the monster off me, or i can help the tank when only single monster)

as far as skill poings:
maxd heal on sp consumption and cool down
invincible +2 points (for both GvG and when im grindinig so i dont have to heal myself as often)
bash damage is maxed and i think i have a point in either cool down or sp consumption.
i *think* thats all the points....or i might have the one from 37 just sitting there because i havnt figured it out yet, thinking about duration on restore...

For my lvl 5X Cleric, I devoted only 10 pts to SPR since divinity took care of my of my sp and in addition to that 2 GK spr/end ring helped alot. I put rest of the points to END and I found that it had become a life saver at times...such as in uruga...when the fighter started mobbing orcs and my heal aggro the mob towards me, I can survive and keep the rest of my party alive...

As for my skill point empowerment,

5 points to heal cooldown - every cleric a must!!!
5 potints to heal sp consumption - very economical
5 points to bash cooldown - very good for soloing
5 points to invincible - the extra 7 seconds can be a life saver for everyone
5 points....dunno yet...maybe group heal?

one pointer for keeping a fighter/mage mobbing party alive...use a combination of heal and rejuvanate to heal them in addition to occasional invincibility and restore. Some fast finger work there. ^^

That's what I am basically now, and I'm glad I went that path of more Endurance. Since I started getting AoE groups, which are common in Uruga and up, grabbing heal aggro is something you don't want to do but sometimes it can't be avoided. Especially if the Fighter gets stunned and cannot AoE taunt or AoE stun them back right away.

To be exact, I am 17 SPR / 30 END right now. I plan on going to 25 SPR then END for life. Only because I solo a lot and the damage on criticals helps. Plus, one can never have to much SP.

Skill Points are all over:
10 into Heal for the obvious reasons.
5 into Bash (3 Power, 2 SP)
5 into Invincible Duration

Not on right now, but a few are in SP for Restore because I like to keep that up constantly in groups if I can, especially as well in solo because it reduces the amount of times I heal by a ton.

Ill put in my 2 cents

Sesshomaru: 44 cleric~Bijou

Stats 2:1 End:spi

End:33
Spi:16
I just lvled so havent added one stats point.... = p

As for my stats, it works well in high lvl group grinds where we fight thrumpys which are around lvl60~70. At times we tank 3 at once and then we get a couple adds. In that situation your heals will out agro your tanks kicks and mocks (heal 7 with restore), and you will have tank 1 mob while keeping the heals on the tank and yourself. This is when the extra hp comes in handy were you need to take that one extra hit to heal yourself. If you die, your tank will most likely die also.

As for skill points:
3 bash power
5 bash sp
5 heal sp
5 heal cooldown
1 duration invincible
1 restore sp

I think the only nessasary skill points needed are Max Sp and Max cooldown on Heal and 1 duration invincible, these are needed to become a good group healer so they matter most. Everything else you can put where your hearts desire.

I guess I should give you guys a taste of my experience. My character Arku and is currently 55 soon to be 56 Cleric. The build I am using at the moment is 50 End and 10 Spr. Hoping to get Spr to 15 or maybe 20 before going back to end. As of right now, I can solo in AEW and grind around 140k exp per hour. My Sp stone cost is about 5s and profit is around 30s per trip. The skills I empowered are as follows:

Heal: Max Cool, Max Sp usage.
Bash: Max Damage, Max Sp usage, Max Cool.
Trip: Max damage.
Extra points: Waiting for level 60 skills.

*edit* I forgot to talk about rings. With this build, I only use Str/End CG rings. Since I have such high End, damage is really low at my level. So I normally stick to those kinds of rings.

As for weapons: I use Hammer. Mainly for the extra damage it gives over maces. For those who argue about the aim, I recommend picking up Scroll Production. Making your own power scrolls really saves money and is useful. *edit*

I really advise the beginners to stick to End before hitting up Spr. Unless you like to party a lot then Spr should go first. As for me, I normally solo since Uruga is always full of low level clerics seeking parties and yes they always get invited. I recommend new clerics to try what they think works best rather than follow a guide. But by knowing how others fair in the game, it will help you pick better decisions.

I hope this helps. Just post if you have any more questions. I'll be glad to help =].
