Here's the deal: If you want to almost alwys be in a party, be a healer. Not that they can't go out and train on their own, but they are always sought after by parties going out to more difficult areas.

If you want to get your hands dirty, become a fighter or a rogue. Granted, fighters are tanks; they roll in, clean out the enemy, let out a roar and move on to the next bloody encoutner whereas rogues are a little more discreet - and for the first 30 levels or so they have to be careful as they are not as strong as fighters, but have a few tricks up their sleeves such as max dodge and crit hit capabilities and an ability to turn invisible (much) later on.

Lastly, the mage; capable of great damage but also weak to physical attack in the beginning. Another must-have for any party, they also have the ability and strength to go out on their own.

But this is merely my opinion... good luck.

Mage's are my class of choice, I like to ambush monsters from a distance and have them dead before they reach me. Also, a good AOE dealer is good in a group where the tank could use some help.

I just have started to look into this game with one of my friends and it semms that a good choice would be a rouge, but is that to hard for a "newbie"?

I'm sorry but in my opinion this game is a really cheap knock off of a game with much better graphics and game play, corum. although corum has less classes than this game, it gives a much stronger possibilities. i forgot the site where you can go to get there so you will have to go through google to look for it... but it is A LOT better in my opinion.

the graphics of this game are more simalar to Ragnarok Online, which has been around for a while. That and SoS are both based of the same engine, and i expect this game Corum was too. Thus the graphics are simalar. Gameplay wise, keep in mind that this game is Closed Beta and is not yet complete.

Edit: Looked at the game Corum and it looks nothing like this game.

I agree with Rodaa. RO was a good game, with simular graphics. Also, I dont think Corum looks much like either of them. I havent played SoS, so I am not sure about the game play. But I am sure its is the standard RPG. Kill - Xp - Lvl... Quest - Xp - Level... But back to the topic.

Mages FTW. Healers are also fun classes. Serric's post was the most helpful I think.

Haha. I'm new, looks decent. However, yes, it does seem to be a Ragnarok Online knock-off, as I have played Ragnarok Online for three years now. Same emoticons/basic concept, yes? However, this isn't maintained by Gravity.

Has permission been given to use their content? o_O;

their content? LAWL
SoS is completly diffrent from RO. The only simalarity is the graphics style because they use the same engine.

Lastly, the mage; capable of great damage but also weak to physical attack in the beginning.

so does this mean that mages can actully start doing more physical damage as they lvl up? because it kinda sucks when you are fighitng a monster, and then you run out of mp and have to either run around in circles rill you get a little more mp to kill the thing or physicly attack it about 10-20 times and missing most of the time or doing 1 damage till the thing dies... =\ kinda annoying if you ask me

if your mage is getting good at melee you've messed up your build 0o

and to answer the MP problem theres pots for that. You will spend more money on MP pots than HP pots.

It really depends on you. If you like helping people (or if it's your nature), then be a healer. If you're the one who's kinda aggressive, then be the fighting one.. that is, either fighter, archer, wiz and the like. It really depends on you. I don't think gauging what type of character you should play should be based on statistics-- like if there are lesser healer players, you'd be a healer. Well, that's just my point of view. :)
