If you're asking what monsters to grind on at level 5, smack up some Slow Slimes; in my experience they're the first monsters that drop low quality Summoned Beast Leather, which you'll need for scroll production if you take that item crafting route. I believe at that point you also have the quest wherein you need to find Gang and Bored Imps. They're at the Forest of Tides, spawning around the huts near the beach.

Uhm...Yeah, just sell monster drops. There isn't anything wrong with that. Unless you want to start alchemy skills. But if you have absolutely no money, yes, sell monster drops.

Nope, attacking Slow Slimes alone at level 5 is SUICIDE!!! They almost evade every attack and do hard damage! Level 5 should be pleased with Imps or Speedy Slimes. :) Note that Slimes and Speedy Slimes also drop Summoned Beast Leather, but not as much as the Slow Slimes. If you don't need the Summoned Beast Leather for your own scroll production (guess he can't even afford the recipes) just sell them for 20+c each at the entrance of Rumen. If you farm a half hour long you can make at least 2s alone from the SBL. Tough Meat, Torn Leather, Copper Lumps and Return Scrolls can also make a lot of extra money.
Another tip: Don't buy armors except a shield with level under 10! You get them for free as rewards for questing. ;)
