What are Classes?????

am new at this game (only started yesterday and it's my first ever online game) and am loving it.
while trying it out, i noticed people talking about different classes, so i was wondering wht are they, and how do i join one or become one????

rogue, acolyte, warrior, mage

then those branch off into tier classes, basically upgraded versions of the same class.

There are two sub-classes you can get by branching off from the main classes but require higher levels to do so.

Rogue can go subclass Archer.
Acolyte can go subclass pred, which is basically a cleric/paladin class.
