In terms of testing a video game, Alpha comes first where usually the company has their own testers test out the game before it goes into "Beta I or Closed Beta Phase" where a select few people from outside the company (usually the public they're trying to reach out too) test the game out from 1 month up until they decide to end it.

After Beta I is confirmed successful they switch over to Beta II or as some know it "Open Beta" where the product is released to the public for further testing and fine tuning until the product is ready to be released as the "Full Version"

So in the video game industry, Alpha does indeed come before Beta. Please read up on it in case you don't understand, I have and continue to do my part in the Video Game Industry / Community since I was about 5 years of age. It also helps when you know a few people and can actually "Clarify" this stuff.

beta in most cases is meant just as a word to say its in testing

everything starts out as a beta to the public before the full release comes out and the alpha version wether there was one or not doesn't come after beta the full version is after beta was mostly my point
