Do Shields Block skills?

Do shields block melee skills by fighters, clerics AND magic skills by mages or ranged skills by archers?

It seems like its only blocking normal attacks.

Anyone confirm would be nice.

they dont block magic attacks, only the Knight skill Buckler can do that.

idk if they can block archer aoe or not

Really? between almost 2 years of playing ive never noticed that> i guess thats kinda due to me rarely using a sheild but ive never heard anyone else say that either :O

ya..if they blocked magic attacks mages would complain even more. and if toughness actually worked on top of blocking magic attacks, fighters really would be overpowered.

ya but 99/100 fighters start off with 1h/shield when fighting mages. if shields blocked magic attacks and had a skill that increases block rate by x amount (17.5% at lvl83), it would semi-make up for one of our only weaknesses.

I pvp with a 1h/s and yes shield does block skills, it is just very low chance as i have seen. I have blocked mages magic skills on multiple occasions (can't block fear though), as one random night in fbz3 i did block a few devas of my friend and we were laughing cause he first said stun fail.. then noticed no dmg done to me.

Edit: erm forgot to mention, archers aoes i have never blocked, don't remember ever dodging them either, have resited with necklace though.

o-o hmm....i never blocked a mage skill or a mage mobs skill.

you can dodge archer aoes, but ya i never blocked them b4 either

I have even blocked helga 2 times and pvp hammer seceral times

no toughness does work, you just have to remember how small of a percent you really have even with toughness to block. Its only around maybe 30% maxish if i recall as a knight with block rate, and in truth that is pretty small, when you talking about constantly being bombarded by aoes it seems high but in pvp 1v1 its just to small to really make any difference to be noticed with blocks.

30% is small block rate? thats like sayin 30% crit makes no diff.

you will notice a big diff between pure build end block rate and no end build block rate, which is only a about 8% diff at lvl 90...but its still recognizable. The higher the %, the more chains popup (higher crit % = more crit chains, higher eva % = more dodge chains, etc.) 30% block rate would give with toughness activated SHOULD give you more chances to block 3 or 4 times in a row...but it doesnt. ive tested it, ive tested it with diff builds, ive asked other fighters..it doesnt work.

its like a mind trick. sometimes i use Vitality and for some reason it fails but i dont notice it, when i kill somethin my mind tells me i killed it faster because i had vitality on..then i look up and notice vitality never went through. using touhness does the same thing im sure for alot of ppl.

PvP Hammer still 1 hits though x_X even if you somehow blocked it.

@ topic: Err....with toughness
I'm not sure if it blocks mage skills or not.
If you were a Knight, Buckler blocks two of them 100% then has to recharge.
