View Full Version : Pegged CPU running Fiesta

I'm having a rather strange issue. I have multiple computers, and can connect to Fiesta from each. However, on my biggest box, the CPU stays pegged at 99-100% at all times. It makes the game run rather slow on that machine, and I also can't minimize it and work on something else because nothing else runs reasonably well while Fiesta is up..

Here are the specs for the machine in question:

2.2GHz AMD processor
1.5GB of RAM
RADEON 9700 PRO
Windows XP Pro SP2

Now, let's go to the other end of the spectrum and look at the box I have that's at the lowest end:

1.2GHz AMD processor
512MB RAM
GeForce2 Ultra
Windows 2000 SP4

Strangely enough, the processor only stays at around 70-80% on this machine, and I'm able to click out of it and perform other work without a problem (even though this machine is below the minimum specs given by Outspark).

Now, before anyone asks, neither machine is running a firewall (I shut it down before playing the game). They also each have the latest video drivers and are running DirectX 9.0c. I have disabled all unnecessary services and kill unneeded processes on each. However, no matter what I do on the larger machine, the fiesta.bin file is always pegged.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and the laptop that I have that's right in the middle of these two runs fine as well.

I have a very similar rig at my home, but I dont face these issues. You may have too many processes running in the back ground. Also some tabbed browsers take up alot of system resourses like Avant broswer. As for the Win2000 OS machine. Our games are not designed for Win2000. It may run, but can give you issues. I suggest closing all chat clients, and other programs you dont need, and try it again. Many tech support depts for game companies will request you shutdown ALL background operation when launching a game.

Thank you,

Thanks for the response. The 2000 machine isn't really an issue, since I don't care if the game continues to run on it. It's really the XP machine that's giving me fits.

When Fiesta is running, I can't even click the Start Menu button or double-click on My Computer without it taking an inordinate amount of time. Nevermind trying to launch IE6. I can literally walk away and make myself a cup of coffee in the time it takes to come up (ah, reminds me of the good old C64 days).

I'm pretty sure I've shutdown everything that's not required. No other programs are being run at the same time (chat clients, etc.), and I've closed all the icons in the bottom right of the screen (including On-Access Scan for my AV program for the duration). Likewise, I've opened up Task Manager and killed everything that I believed unnecessary (Google Toolbar Updater, UpdaterUI, etc.) and the problem still persists.

Well, I'll go back and look again. If I have to, I'll google each process I'm not sure about to see if it's truly needed and let you guys know how it turns out. Any other thoughts/suggestions are more than welcome!
