Connection to servers has failed

I'm New to this game...I just downloaded the game and once I went to open the game a little box shows up in the center of the screen, "Connection to servers has failed".
I wasn't sure if the servers are truly down or if I did somethng is wrong...
Can someone please ease my mind with an answer?
