ok everyone now please try to use this hint of advice for future scammers.
if someone is claiming they r on their alt character then tell them just out of safety
that u will send their main a mail and will need the main character to mail them back, that way they understand what kinda trade is being made under their name. also it can be used for proof of a trade.

if the ALT character does not want to do this, then it possibly cud be a scammer just saying they r sum1 who they r not.

please use caution when loaning out expensive items to ppl.

fvrom my experience I tried to make a forum thread about selling a expensive item and sumhow the owner was told to give sum alt of mine the pearl, but i never said that, so he gave his expensive item to sum xenian which is the easiest form of a scammer since it takes a few minutes to make1.

IF U READ THIS FAR THEN DONT DEAL WITH XENIANS OR NE1 ALTS FOR THAT MATTER....ONLY DEAL WITH THE MAIN CHARACTER OF THE PERSON U R WORKING WITH....CUT OFF THE SCAMMERS FOOD SUPPLY TO WEAKNESS

If someone says they are on an alt and wants something, just tell them to get on their main as proof of who they are and trade with the main, all they have to do is put the item into the hotel and switch back to their alt unless it's an alt on another account, in which case a guild storage comes in handy :p

Thanks for the heads up on the modified scamming tactic

The most common type of scam:

*Xenian or low level approaches*
"Hi."
"Can I borrow your mount?"
"I only want to show my friend for a few minutes. They are really rubbing it in that they have one and that I don't"
"I will be forever indebted to you"
"I promise I will give it back. Just ask (insert high level name here)."

Suggested responses:

"Stop scamming people."
or
"Get a life you pathetic loser before I PWN you and your mom in PVP."
or
Throw pies (slaps and noobstakes are also acceptable) at them, run circles around them, and LOL
or
Report them
or
Ignore them

Bottom line: It's not that hard people. Never give stuff to people you do not know if you want it back. To be extra safe, don't give people anything you do not want to be lost, npc'd, scammed, etc.

It's really pretty simple. a)If you are selling or buying something and the person you are dealing with overcomplicates the transaction, pay one character, get the item from an alt or main, or give the item to one character and get paid by another, then there is a 99.99999999% chance it's some sort of scam. b)Don't loan anything you value to anyone you don't know really, really well. It is so easy now to make a new character and get it to 45 or higher really quickly. That little aco or scout you let "borrow" your pet can run to the hotel or guild storage and drop off his inventory then be deleted. I've been approached by characters who wanted to borrow my mount several times. It still surprises me. I would never approach a stranger and ask to borrow a pet or mount. They don't know me so why would they loan one? Yet I've been in a party with people that I didn't know and that didn't seem to know each other and one character would drop a mount on another to try out. The GM's have said in game not to loan anything you value to anyone, because player trades are player trades and they can't get the stuff back for you. So even if your intention is to loan not give an item, you are at the mercy of whoever you loaned that item to.

In the case of someone claiming that they are on an alt and want you to loan them something.

Here are a couple tips

1. Don't loan out stuff to people you don't know. Who cares if so and so can vouch for you, I don't know you.

2. If someone claims that they are on an alt, have them whisper you on their main. Make up an excuse like "I have to switch to my alt, just whisper me. Its the one on your main's buddy list" or "I have to go for a bit , mail me from your main so I remember and let me know which alt you will be on."

3. Don't loan out stuff to people you don't know

4. Have fun, but be careful and cautious. Just because you get to know someone for a month doesn't mean you know that person. Would let some one you met IRL and got to know for a month, borrow your car or stay in your home alone while you're out of town. Use the same judgement in game.

It's sad most of the players of today don't know how bad a situation like this can get... (remembers the first episode between a Scout and an Archer, the former being banned some time later for stealing and selling the latter's gears and pet, all while being happy that he wasn't breaching anything in the TOS, of course that particular instance involved account sharing... it's the same princible if you think about it.)

Ditto on the quote. Just don't lend or give, ever. No one can really be hated for being careful.

This bring up another kind of warning too, based on account sharing.

1. For guilds, be careful what you put in guild storage. Don't put your mounts or awesome gears thats you couldn't live without in guild storage. I was once in a guild where one of the people who had an account sharer's password got on his player and cleaned out the guild storage and probably traded it their own player. Come to find out there were 3-5, maybe more people (who played SOS) who knew the password.

Wish guids had a log of who removed, what was removed, and when.

Its good to remember that GM's are not responsible for returning items traded, loaned, or borrowed in player to player trades. So unless you can guarantee that it will be returned, don't loan it out. And if you're not down with that, I got 2 words for ya. I'm out.

Good reminder. I am still surprised after all the incidents that I have seen shouts on, there are still guilds that give new members instant access to guild funds and guild storage. The guilds I am involved with maintain guild storage which includes some enhanced gears donated to the guilds, but only well established members can remove items from storage, so if someone wants to borrow something, they have to have one of the guild officers get it for them. That way we do have a record of who has what. So far we have only had one person disappear with our gear. We lost 3 pieces of enhanced 6ap cleric gear.

Lots of good advice here :D Outspark staff does not encourage any player to give, trade, or loan items to any players in game. If you have done so and the player does not return your item, we do not compensate for the loss of item. When giving, trading, loaning an item to another player, it is at your own risk.

Pretty sad the current situations occurring in game that I have heard is one player and there is nothing that someone of authority can do to them. 3 mounts as well as gears stolen is really sad. Considering 2 of the 3 mounts are Def and Attack and thats obviously SC used to enhance those pets. Money just thrown away because someone keeps making an alt and people are trusting. Very sad

Well, the GMs have said if you loan out a pet or any item for that matter it is considerred a player to player trade and there is nothing they can do. Perhaps we could request that the GMs run a notice on a few random days reminding players that if they loan out an item and the person it is loaned to refuses to return it the item is gone. Apparently the word isn't getting spread around and many players never visit the forums. The downside to such a notice is it might alert people who have borrowed items to the fact that nothing other than their own moral code requires them to return them.

There isn't much that can be done... even if GMs made notices, it's up to the players who would or have made such trusting arrangements to decide to be smart about it. Maybe if more and more players spread the word it would become more readily known, but then again, it would all be up to the ones willing to trust others...

It's sad not that many players visit the forums (or maybe they do but don't post to prove their activity, I dunno.)
