i dunno if these people get off on being a pretend-mod or something, but they're annoying as hell.

Uhm...I think they're just trying to help out people who don't even know what ToS stands for? I personally try to inform people who are tading SC items for in game money that it's a bannable offense, because most of the time they honestly don't know, and if that was me I would want others to stop me before I make a mistake. It's because no one reads the ToS that many who did or know some stuff in the ToS feel inclined to inform others, imo.

It's party due to the frustration from the game. Lots of idiots make you angry in game, and that transfers over to here.

So when you get beat up in game, you beat people up here. Kind of a funny way to release tension, you get some epic flamefests occasionally xD

Since you agree to it before being allowed to play, and since it is a list of everything that can get you punished/banned, and as it states everythign that OS is legally allowed to do without you being able to take legal action against them...I should hope you did...or do you have a habit of clicking "I agree" without looking at what you agree to?

it's possible to post semi-negative comments without hurting people feelings too badly (doesn't everybody learn from mistakes?)

I've seen some rather negative threads left open. Even those negative at OS as a company. Maybe you remember the person who destroyed their CoA and made a thread about it. Clearly negative towards OS and their event, though it was left open until too much back and forth flamage occured.

BTW, There IS an edit button. Also BTW, I DID read the entire ToS once. Don't really remember mch of it but my common sence tells me what might and might not get me in trouble.

Yeah, it's a F2P MMO, but there are cash options, and the ToS says what can be done with them. The ToS also state what can be done to your account and for what reasons. The ToS also state what is not allowed in-game and on the forums. The fact that you don't want to read the ToS before playing shows that the first thing you did when entering this game, basically is break them, as you clicked the "I have read and agree to" the ToS option

In my opinion, if a person starts violating the ToS -especially if it could lead someone else into a violation- then I would praise someone that would ask if they knew that their actions were a violation of the ToS.

What bugs me is not that some people care...it's that so many people are bugged that some people that care.

yup that's called being tactful. And the reality is that there are people who are not tactful and get a jolly out of putting others down and they don't care if they hurt someone's feelings in the process. If someone is flaming or breaking the rules, ToS gives players something to point to to say that they have a right to be treated with respect. Same goes for other forum rules.

Agreed with this.

Seriously, the ToS isnt that much text to read. Outspark did a good job putting it rather simple. You should always read fine print and ToS, even if you think it's pointless...it's there for a reason and you agree to it for a reason.

True story: I bought a new car from a dealership. Two days later I gave them a call and told them I was returning the car, I wasn't satisfied with it. The answered back saying I purchased the car, I cannot return it. I said I could, in fact, return it. The contract I signed stated that I could return the car and void my contract within three days of signing it and if the car was under 1,500 miles. There was a long pause on the phone, then, the guy said to bring it back in.

That wouldnt have happened if I didn't read the fine print before signing.

I'll admit I have a problem with people who seem to be trying to take on the duties of a moderator/CL/GM or whatever. I mean I could understand once in a while, but I see some of the same people on several threads a day and it's rather annoying. Lately those same people(one in particular) has acquired a bit of a nasty tone when they are telling someone on here about a rule they may/are breaking. First you assert yourself as someone in authority and then do it with an attitude. That's just annoying and what I feel leads to a lot of arguments on here.

Well yes these are forums and yes you can make posts without being rude and be somewhat negative at the same time... There is a point however, that when you click "I have read..." but didn't read... then you are even then, breaking the rules. The ToS is there to help YOU. If I never frequented forums, I would not know that Gifting (in the sense of receiving IG or elsewise in return) was not allowed. I could have gifted and found myself banned.

Gee, it seems helpful to read these things

Well, often times the Forum-Moderators don't reply in a timely manner. And often times, a person who's currently there right then, happens to know the answer or would like to make a comment.

And well, "copy & pasting" or "quoting" is the most legitimate form (here on forums) of substantiating a claim with evidence- basic elements to an argument. If I say "You spelled this wrong." I would then quote your post to prove it. Showing where it says in the ToS is providing the person with viable proof that what they say is true-

who even reads the ToS?

Well as any responsible adult will tell you, ALWAYS READ BEFORE YOU SIGN. That includes electronic signatures, which is essentually the LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT you have with Outspark, and if the legal jargon bothers you, perhaps you should ask mom or dad, hmm?

As far as pointing out that something is against the ToS, thats why the rules are there, it's the same principal as telling someone to look both ways to cross the street. Rules are there to safeguard people from other crazy/mean people.

My suggestion is this: READ THE TOS. Make sure you understand it. Follow the rules outlined in the TOS. I know many people do really stupid things, like shout in Uruga for SC gifting for gold and such...and if someone is in a bad mood, or that person just beat another in war or something...screenshots happen. I also make a point of telling those random people that whisper me for SC in exchange for gold, NO. It's against the TOS. You never know when a GM may be in disguise, and quite frankly, Ive invested time and money in the game and want to continue enjoying it.

Now, ALL that being said, if you don't LIKE the rules, quit. If you break the rules in front of ME,I'll report you. Why should you get to break the rules.

I'm the kinda person that if I see a burglery happening, I call the cops.

I've also tried to warn someone, since the GMs may be on an alt at any given time, you know, and if they try to mask language, I'll screenshot it. I'm done trying to be nice. I give one warning, and if people wanna say that I'm, you know, like a "tattletale" or whatever, I could care less. The less people who DONT follow the rules are around, the better the gameplay for me. So in the future, if they start cursing you or whatever, report them. Ther is absolutely NO NEED for you to put up with someone who broke two rules in two sentences.

I've done that too. Been yelled at for it too. I once had pretty much all of the shouting population in Eldy going against me cause I said "Hey. You know trading SC for IG curency/items can get BOTH people banned" Strange world we live in.

The Community Leaders here are nothing more than players who have shown a knowledge of the game, the site and the rules and have a willingness to help others.

I can't say that the repetitive answers are efficient, but the user is still getting an answer...correct?

^^ Exactly! All of the CL's here are from the United States. We're all pretty much asleep at the same general time...except for Alden (I think he's a vamp...). Even during daylight hours, we have other responsibilities (for example, I'm at work right now) that may keep us busy. This means we don't see every post, and every thread that flies by. Those 'white knights' step in and provide the answer, or warn the user that what they're doing isn't allowed.

Granted, I will admit some users do go overboard, but for the most part....people here are just trying to help.

I'm the kinda person that if I see a burglery happening, I call the cops.

Interesting analogy ^^

seems my imagination is too limited e.e

Its ok, we <3 you anyways.

Oh, I guess I should answer the OP:

The Terms of Service is, as others have mentioned, a legally binding document between you (the user) and Outspark. Whether you read it or not, you are still bound by it and should you be caught violating any of the rules therein you can be held responsible for your actions. Claiming a lack of knowledge in regards to the rules doesn't really fly.

If you are having difficulties understanding some of the things that are said in the Terms of Service, please feel free to PM me, any of the other CLs, or a staff member. We'll do our best to make it clear.

As for the 'white knight' issue...each individual has their own motivations for posting the way they do, I'm sure. However, some users out there genuinely want to help. Some individuals view these users as tattle-tales, suck ups, wanna be's, etc. but when it comes down to it, they're doing nothing more than stating what should be an obvious fact.

Granted, I will admit that a few users do go overboard in their methods of informing another user. I don't think its necessary to tell someone that you've reported them...and that alone tends to stir up drama. However, there are a number of users out there who pull the 'white knight' act, that have nothing but good intentions. I have an immense amount of respect for those users because they're going out of their way to try and help someone they've never met.

Mmm nah, I dont see white knights, only dark ones.

People who walk around, clearly insulting others, but when they get caught, try to play it off as "it was unintentional" or "I didnt mean it that way" etc. When they get punished because its proven they DID have the intent to harass / harm another player, they turn around and begin quoting the person they originally tried to hurt, go around flaming, crying, etc, about how they didnt do anything yet the screenshots say otherwise.

And I say Dark Knights because they are anything but pure. They sit there with the "air of authority" and pretend like they are buddy buddy with Outspark, and pretend like they can do whatever, whenever they want, and not get punished.

But oh, when they do, omg, its the end of the world /sarcasm/ but then they continue doing the original thing that got them punished in the first place. And they expect to continue doing this? Psh.

If you ask me, I'd say that the 'white knights' are very nice.perhaps in the sense that they warn people about that fact that they are being too rude/no following the rules before someone actually reports them.
Believe me,reporting a post takes less than 10 seconds while explaining it to the people takes way longer. If you put it that way,the white knights are nice aren't they?taking all the time to save that person from being reported right?

That nifty little terms of service states that that kind of language isn't allowed here. This site caters to younger individuals and families, therefore excessive language isn't something we encourage. :)

Thats because everyone here seems to be having a discussion, I don't see any epic flames, and I see no reason to close it. Its a valid discussion. A lot of people have not read our Terms of Service...but it tends to lead to complications down the road.
