So let's say that I gave you two words with numeric values:

his - 50
this - 55

(Note these are not the actual values of these words for the puzzle it is just an example)

You can use this to figure out that t = 5. You have to figure out enough letters to figure out the pattern of numbers when you go from a-z.

So let's say the pattern from a-z is +2, -1, +2, -1 etc. And let's say you know a = 5, then you know the rest of the letters:
a = 5, b = 7, c = 6, d = 8, e = 7 etc.

So it's up to you to figure out enough of the letters to determine the pattern. When you have the right pattern you can get the values of every letter and then solve the puzzle.

It's really hard to use short words that can help you guys determine the values of certain letters and still have it make perfect sense. My advice to you guys is that, take this to mean the answer is something simple for the GMs to do, it isn't something complicated, that's it. Don't get stuck on this part too much.

Also, the last puzzle I wanted to be as hard as this one, so that was just my mistake.

Well without the third set of clues, we couldn't have guessed it. It helped us A LOT!

Those extra words helped a TON! I worked an hour on this waiting for work to be over and didn't get anywhere at all. By the time I got home and had dinner, you'd added the extra words and I was able to figure it out in about 15 minutes.

For those interested, the answer was "pinchyourselfyouaredreaming"

The pattern for the alphabet was x2, -4, x2, -5, x2, -6, x2, -7, x2, -8, etc.

But remember that a = 5

Yeah didnt expect to finish this one on time. I think certain people managed to find it out and used it on alt accounts / shared with friends. No offense, but there were just errors in the wrong places (in the small words, like is, red, bed, etc) that made it really hard to find out. Im still trying to figure it out without using the answers supplied just to see how they figured it out to begin with but idk. I think maybe I didnt refresh it after the misups were fixed cus im coming out on one point that 3 was like.. 27 and yet was also 7. LOL

._. I hate the problems like this. I love math, and I like the math problems, but I dont like it where its so impossible that once someone manages to find it out, all they do is just share it and all the prizes are given out before anyone else can rly have a chance ._.

It actually doesn't mean a lot of good guesser. simple math would've done it. smarter math could've done it quicker. And once you had a few, you could guess what the rest were. I finished it in like 10 minutes, sadly I didn't get to it until 6 hours after it had posted. And probably everyone else used it on their alts to get sc ... sad.

Since you said you got it and the codes had already been used up I'd like to remind you he edited the blog page multiple times and there were math errors. It was just fixed before you had the chance to see it.

I know you need to do various types of puzzles to give others a chance that aren't so good at this type, but I think they were well done and challenging enough to be fun.

I've only been following your blog for a month or so, and I'm hooked on your puzzles. Whether I get the answer or not, it's still fun to try to work it out.

Facebook and Twitter will be used to tell people that there has been a post, and if it's a puzzle, the announcement will say so. The blog is going to continue to be updated, however it may be moved to a different URL in the near future, but if that happens there will be a redirect and information in the appropriate places.

I think what he's more concerned about is the people who solve it and end up telling 5-10 friends. That's nice players want to share but it's totally unfair to the people who also spent hours trying to solve it and just happened to not see the puzzle as soon as it was posted. Unfair to the ones who worked on the puzzle and can't get it while others were just told the answer and redeemed it. Other people can't afford sc either.

It's a little suspicious when 30 codes are redeemed in 6 hours and only like 10 people posted on forums that they solved it don't you think?
That's why I enjoy the really really tough puzzles (like the anagram one before) where the redeems didn't run out until a day or two later. Cause it gives more people a chance to catch up if they saw it late.
Regardless I just accept people will tell all their friends and I just take satisfaction in being able to solve a fun, unique puzzle. :D

Because there is no rule against redeeming on multiple accounts, it's more so that if there is a common problem and only 5-10 people are redeeming 30 coupons every time then the puzzles will probably be canceled.

I have requested the data enough to see that, in the past, it hasn't been a problem. I just want to make sure it stays that way so I am going to check this one and the next also. If it is a consistent problem then it simply isn't worth my effort until a new coupon system is set up with a duplicate IP restriction.

The reason I am taking the time to type all of this out is because I want people to be aware of their effect on the community.

I am not saying I am canceling the puzzles. Nor am I saying this is currently a big problem. I'm just saying that I am going to do some investigation and if it is a big problem, then I will do the appropriate things, but I really don't expect it to be a big problem since the SC can't be used to gift.

Well if they take the SC on alt accounts just to gift, they might see that it doesn't work and stop doing this. Well ya, telling maybe 1 friend isn't that bad, but telling to a friend who tells to another friend who tells to another... this is bad. It can be redeemed in 5 minutes x.x

Yeah I honestly don't think that it's someone using it on all their alt accounts. Moreso that let's say Bob went on the blog, saw the puzzle and solved it. He's likely to have posted "woot woot I got it! ty!" Now if Bob tells his guildmates they're likely to redeem it and not bother posting on forums. (Which I've seen happen once in the past). That's how you get 10 people saying they solved it yet all the codes used up.

Edit: Correction...3 people posted that they solved it before codes were used it. 3/30.

2nd Edit: edit button ftw lol. It's okay Bribbo. I'm a puzzle lover so I don't mind doing them just for the fun of it anyway. Half the time I get tempted to make up my own puzzles and post them here but I'd be worried about making a mistake lol.

I came to the same conclusion, some people must have shared the code. 30 codes were redeemed in no time and only a few posts here. Too bad these people don't realize that every code shared means no code for a person who did work hard to solve the puzzle. I'd still like to see more puzzles with the previous format ^^.

:D sweetness! Only thing I'd recommend though is if the user were to submit the puzzle to you first with the problem and answer in order to have it checked that it's actually doable/correct.

I edited the blog to say so too, thanks for the suggestion Nenova. Usually it's not a problem but this thread has shifted in so many ways so people keep posting, which is fine.

About the user submitted puzzles being used in the blog with rewards, I will release an official forum post either today or tomorrow about my standing on them.

But first I need to say something briefly about the data I received.

I think we all know that people may work together and some people like to share their answers with their friends. That's fine to a certain extent. I'm sure we're all smart enough to use our own judgment to determine this.

But if you are someone who is breaking the rules, like any of the terms of service of Outspark (http://www.outspark.com/legal) then you need to stop. This includes account sharing, like logging into each others' accounts to redeem a coupon code.

If it becomes a common theme then the puzzles will stop.
