post what you think the main differeces are between staffs and wands, besides the damage, aim, and other obvious differences please. ive heard many different points of view of the two weapons, including something about the cast time being affected by certain buffs and debuffs. anyways, if u know something out of the ordinary about the differences between staffs and wands, post it (^^)

As far as I'm aware the main differences are the attack rate, the damage, and the critical rate.

I find it funny how they took the time to make the attack rate different even though it only affects auto attack.

I did up until I made a mage of my own and started playing it, lol. I didn't say it was a relevant difference, just that it was there. Ya know, in case you ever feel like smacking someone on the head with a wand or a staff....

The main differences between a wand and a staff are given by:
* Minimum base crit (staves tend to have less crit % than wands)
* Base dmg range (wands have higher dmg range than staves)
* Aim (staves have higher aim than wands)
* Attack Rate: when it comes to attack rate, it is still a mistery to some ppl what the attack rate do considering mages do not really use auto attack. I used to think that it was a useless advantage the staves had over the wands, considering I couldn't picture my magey going towards the mobs with the intention of bashing her staff in their heads xD. So even tho I decided to use staff for her as I picture her like a wizard in the long future and I like to respect the weps aimed to be used for every Job, I still wondered why would anyone choose a staff over a wand if wands made more dmg, had more critical, and by just building up some dex the aim could be kinda worked out. It was pretty much a fight already won by the wand army xD til I found out this:
>>When my mage got to lvl 55 and finally got to wear her spark set, I was wondering how would the effect of spark set benefit my mage, considering that 2 pieces increase the attack rate of Magic Burst, and 3 pieces decrease sp consumption of Magic Burst. Besides the +HP, the sp consuption and the crit in the boots, the effect on the blues was pretty much obsolete considering what we just discuss about attack rate in mages. However, when the blues were equipped, and despite the clear description of the set effect, this is what called my attention:

>>Note that even tho the description said 'attack rate' the effect modified was the dmg made by the skill (ignore the '+88' as that's the maxed up power by the skill empowerment, the additional +25% is what is given by the set effect). So could it be that, considering and knowing that mages do not melee attack targets, the attack rate IN MAGES increased the dmg range made by the weapon? The matter was important enough like to investigate, so I headed with my hobby to the blacksmith and purchased two lvl 50 npc weps: a staff and a wand, and without modifying ANYTHING in my mage but the weapon equipped, I check how the dmg varied when using wand or staff:

The staff had less basic range dmg, but higher attack rate, resulting in a higher base dmg for the character. So bottomline, and unless I'm missing something (feel free to share ur thoughts) the attack rate in mages increases their base dmg. So considering that a staff has higher aim and will end up making ur char have higher dmg, aim + more dmg = higher dmg per second.
I guess I'm sticking to my staff now more than ever xD

o.o interesting how the staff has more dmg.
Question, do you have all the weapon masteries for that level? Because if you don't, that may be affecting the results. And I'll try it on my mage when maint is over lol :c
