Unable to read text

Hi all.

I've just finished installing SotS for the third time. I can't read most of the text. It's normal English, and I know what the letters are, but there are missing letters, etc.

I've got the latest version of my nVidia drivers installed (hence the third time installing SotS), and this text problem still hasn't changed.

I have 2x 8600 GTS cards, here is the msinfo32.exe copy/paste:

No firewall installed
Computer was built by myself in late 2007

There is no log file that I can find, I've tried using compatibility mode for XP SP2 and SP3, and it still doesn't work.

I also know that I uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics drivers properly. I can't provide an error log, as none have been generated. The game runs fine, I just can't read text... I am submitting a screenshot along with this.

Here are the steps I took (from memory, over 2 days, may not be 100% accurate):

1. Installed game
2. Noticed text was missing/illegible
3. Browsed forums for fixes
4. Searched for latest nVidia drivers
5. Uninstalled old drivers, reboot, installed new drivers, reboot... Same problem
6. Uninstalled game, reboot, uninstalled old drivers, reboot, reinstall drivers/reboot/game/reboot... Same problem
7. Uninstalled game, reboot, DriverCleanerPro old drivers, reboot, reinstall drivers/etc... Same problem.
8. Posted a CSR ticket, and this post

If there's ANYTHING I'm missing, I'm willing to try. It's odd that I can play other games quite fine (WoW, BioShock, etc.), but I can't read text in this game.

That's weird, I can't think of anything off the top of my head to help you but if I do I'll post. I think i remember some other people having similar problems but no known solution to it. Looks like the letters L and I are missing o.o other than what you've done I can't suggest anything else.

I'm posting another screenshot, because I don't think you actually get the gist of how utterly horrible it is to try and read things.

I've tried fullscreen, changing resolutions, installing the latest OpenGL drivers ... I'm about ready to tear out my hair (and I don't want to lose my grays just yet!!)

ouch, it's a bit to read the text in your new screenshot for some reason but from what i gather yes it looks bad just from your example. All I can suggest is to send in a ticket to CSR and see what they have to say, adding these pictures to it and adding a link to this thread(optional).

It will take a few days for them to reply, probably more since it's so close to Christmas. Other than that it's live with this little bug for now or keep browsing the forums.

One question tho just popped into my head. Go to the center of town where you can probably see some shops and double click on the shop names, are the prices for some stuff missing?

I read in one of the old archived bug forums that someone had changed their font, client-side, to be able to read chat better.

I checked in the Config.ini file, and there IS a place where you can change your font, but changing it to any value that existed (font name and size) did not have any effect on the game itself.

Dear Scwop,

Thank you for contacting Outspark Customer Support.

The issue is that Windows 7 is not yet fully supported in Outspark games. The only officially supported Operating Systems are XP and Vista.

That sucks, and I am surpised CSR replied so quickly I guess they don't have many tickets to deal with atm. At least the cause is known now. Wish there was something that could be done.

I've just recieved information regarding this issue. scwop did you download the latest installer from the official outspark solstice landing page? http://solstice.outspark.com/support/download

If you didn't and downloaded an older version from somewhere else then that could be the cause of your problem.
