1hd sword and shield is best for tanking.

Two handed weapons are fine for tanking, as long as you're not at the very end of your tanking abilities to begin with. Such as a level 30 in CP, or a level 40 in AEW. Don't stress out your healer if you can help it. :)

Honestly, it really depends on your party, what you're grinding on and how many monsters you plan on taking on at one time.

If you're duoing with a cleric, you probably do want to have a 2h axe (or 2hd sword if you like them :P). You need the extra damage. If you're in a full party with a cleric and three dds, you want the 1 hd sword/shield. You can take on more on and kill quicker in the full party.

It's all up to personal preference, really.
