What is a good beginner class?

fighter- easy (most hp and damage for physical)
cleric- moderate (able to heal but lower defence than fighter)
archer- hard (long range but 2nd to lowest defence)
mage- hardest (long range, have your fingers glued to quick buttons and lowest defence)

I suggest you pick cleric first. They make a lot of money, which you can later use to fund any of the other classes.

I would also suggest a cleric. They have the best survivability, and are good money-makers thanks (among other things) to their economical stone usage. Clerics can heal, and thus normally do not have to use HP stones, which more or less cuts your restoning bill in half. (HP stones are also more expensive than SP, so you save there as well.)
