View Full Version : Has anyone else noticed this?

While on my mage killing Spade Guard Trumpy today I noticed something: the damage appears and the mob aggroes on me before my cast animation is finished (I throw the fireball just after the mob takes damage and starts runnign toward me).

You may not think this is a big issue, but think for a moment. That means the mob is moving toward the mage before the mage can either move (can't move until the animation is complete on non-kitable skills) or even begin a second attack.

Given that mages have the lowest hp, def and fewest hp stones available, I think this is unfair to mages. The damage and aggro should not be counted until after the cast animation is finished, because doing otherwise means the mage is hit more times, has to use more of what few hp stones they have, and are more likely to die should seomthign else aggro on them because they are taking additional hits from mobs that closed in faster than they should.

Before anyone says "the mob wandered into aggro range as the spell was cast"; I saw this killing these Spade Guard Trumpy 1 at a time in a quest to kill 100...I find it hard to believe that all of them did that.

Does this happen to anyone else or am I bugged or something? Because if this is normal I think it's a rather unfair issue to mages (don't know if the same is true for archers or not).

The game's not scripted perfectly so there are many bugs.
OnsOn isn't going to fix this, considering all the other things they have to fix.

was it this select mob only? perhaps their aggro range is greater than other mobs... were the Orc Cappys in the same area the same way?

i remember when these guys had zero aggro... u could just run right by them at any level.. lol.

It occurs differently based on each user, I personally never use the 2ndary skills of mage because of the graphic delay, Which unlike almost every other class, are interupted if you move, a cleric can cast restore(single target slow hp recovery spell) and move before its half cast and it'll still work lol.

Anyways, It seems more of a graphic problem, yes its horrible for mages, but it differs for everyone, Im unsure but i think your connection / graphics card / Cpu in usage amount may have slight affects to it.

I'll give it a try later and see what i find.

In reference to the fireball skill I'll give away a little secret, you don't have to wait for the animation. If timed properly you cast and take a slight side step, thus skipping the animation and still causing the damage. Just like the majority of the rest of the mage skills and most of the archer skills that I can think of, the damage occurs at the end of casting, not when the animation hits the monster/player.

This happens to me on all my characters; I've actually noticed it a long time ago (several months?) but figured it was lag or something like that. I'm not too concerned with it, since it doesn't really affect my gameplay that much.

This has happened to me on several occasions.

All mobs seem to do it for all PvE damage skills except Magic Burst (even tested it on Orcs, which don't naturally aggro on me).

I'll grant it's not a major issue, but it is an issue and I wanted to know if it had been brought up before

It's true, most mage spells deal damage and pull aggro before their cast/animation time is finished. Which, like you said, means a monster you attack will start running at you before you have a chance to move in the opposite direction.
