View Full Version : [Suggestion] Radio commands

Hello nice Fiesta community,

I've been thinking on a great improvment to the fiesta gaming experience that some people may like.

Like we, MMO players, know well, sometimes, we need to talk with our party in the game to give some instructions, but that means stay still, open to any harm, while typing.

Most of MMO games i've seen so far have what we call "Radio commands".

It's simple. You press a key, and opens up a screen like this:

1. Message 1
2. Message 2
3. Message 3

and so on.

When a player press a number, the screen goes out, a chat message is shout on the party chat, together with a voice saying the same message.

Of course, it would had a spam protection. If someone send 3 radio commands in a short period of time, he wont be able to do that again for some seconds. Also, a option to the party "silence" him would be useful too.

So, considering all that, a good radio command list for fiesta would be:

1. Team-up everyone!
2. Defend the cleric!
3. I need heal, help!
4. Help! I can't tank it alone!
5. Thanks for the help
6. Pull the enemy
7. Tank failed! Run!
8. Kill the ranged enemies first!
9. Stay still, i'll bring it here.
10. Nice job!

So how does that sound? In my opinion, that would make things easier and the battles, more dynamic and organized.

Please GMs and Administrators, consider this suggestion. Thank you :D

I think you played FPS games not MMO's lol.

As far as i know, MMO stands for "Massive Multiplayer Online". I think FPS also fall on that category.

Even though this is a FPS feature, would be really, really nice to use on Fiesta.

I've seen MMO that have had those types of messages. They are quite useful when you don't have time to type.

The idea you state, though, would not be too practical, as many people use their mouse to activate skills, clicking on a message could taje too long. Perhaps a "/" command would work.

ex 1: someone pulls too many mobs for the tank (mobs are approaching, following gatherer). The tank does not have time to type "Too many, get away!", if the tank does, the tank will miss the time to mock and the party will die; so the tank hits <enter> / r 1 <enter> "There's too many. Get clear" is sent automatically, giving the party time to get away and the tank time to mock (or giving everyone time to get clear while the gatherer tries to get outside aggro range)

ex 2: too many people are taking damage and the cleric cannot heal them all, someone is going to die if the party keeps fighting as they are. The cleric cannot take the time to hit enter then type, "I can't keep up. Everyone but the tank stop attacking to drop aggro." without someone dieing, but between several heals manages to click <enter> / r 3 <enter> and has the message typed autimatically

so I could see this being a useful idea for the game -dunno if it's possible or not (I don't know why you calle dthem radio commads...they are more like recorded messages).

Nice to see someone got my point here :D

And we call it radio commands because it kind of seems like radio messages of a kind of team and such.

It's radio cuz irl people use them in teams to be more organised during an operation.

I could only see this being used in Helga or KQs. I wouldn't like someone's voice saying the same thing over and over again, maybe an alarm to prod the party awake along with the radioed text.

Nice thought.

same here it'll be way scary to hear that all over if it's a weird voice....
I much prefer alarm
and I reali think it's a great idea :D

One of the disadvantage here is that people will spam the commands -.-''

Malaysia ftw ? >;P

Spamming is probably the worst part of it x.o and the typer might type the wrong thing so a different message will come out. Also how can you remember which number is which command without popping up the list x.o
could be a good idea though.

This idea is FANTASTIC! Chat has killed so many times in critical situations and sometimes, we wish we could just press a number to relay what needs to be addressed in a Party situation.

I approve. I totally approve of this. This thing needs to be implemented, like, now lol.

Nice to see the community is getting interest about my idea. Thanks you all for the support.

Yes, i also thought about the voice problem. Actually, we dont need it. You know those "notice" things that pops-up on the middle of the screen? Something like that should work. Only the party would see.

Also, i see a lot of people saying about the spam problem. I already thought about that too, i'll requote a part of my post:

Of course, it would had a spam protection. If someone send 3 radio commands in a short period of time, he wont be able to do that again for some seconds. Also, a option to the party "silence" him would be useful too.

Anyone else have an improvment suggestion?

Yes, i'm a AceAttorney Series fan. You can blame my girlfriend for addicting me. You can also find my characthers on Apoline. I'm right now playing with a "Phoenix_Wright" Mage and a "Miles_Edgeworth" Cleric.

jaja just buy a mic and download skype :p you have just created your own "radio" and its helpful when you have pt with friends and guildies. that way you just talk instead of doing additional commands that will probably be annoying at some time

Forgot to reply about this one. Well, this is just a matter of getting used with the new system. Tell me, when you started with your first characther, could you always remember what number to press to use a certain skill? But now, i guess you can remember any of them anytime, right? See, that's it.

Actually, i already do that. But i use XFire, which pretty much works as the same way. Still, it's a common happening to party with people that we never ever met before, and probably will never meet again. It would be rude to refuse party for people with no XFire or Skype.

I think tht this is a great idea since some ppl are dead b4 they tell someone they need help or something.

Yes, that's my main point. I think i will pm a GM about this thread, they probably haven't seen it yet.

yeah man, it sucks when you try to type something out in the heat of battle, and you miss enter or something, and suddenly your chat is fulled with numbers, so you have to backspace, or click out, and then your message is too late to do any good by the time you click back in and delete your numbers...

so instead of BD, it would be CD

*BD is bomb down, CD cleric down

anyway i find myself doing this i play another game with radio, yes its an fps but its funny to call for a medic only to see my sp go up instead.

mm...what if it's not a spoken voice, but an automatically displayed message? So it would use like a "/t #" command and one of those suggested sayings you had (which I think are great and would be really useful) would come out in your chat box. Maybe in a different color just to make it more noticeable, but still be only be party chat. And of course something like a 2 second cool down between uses. ;)

I think an actual voice would be less workable. I always have Fiesta really low because I like to listen to my own music while I'm questing or whatever. Plus, if the ppl in your party try and use a command at the same time, you probably wouldn't be able to hear it correctly anyway.

Nice idea though. ^^ I've always hated not having the time to type out an emergency msg to my party in a jam, and this would be a handy way to deal with that. =) We could even have a forum event or something to come up with and vote for the default messages. xD

As far as i know, MMO stands for "Massive Multiplayer Online". I think FPS also fall on that category.

Even though this is a FPS feature, would be really, really nice to use on Fiesta.

Most FPS'es can hold up to 16 players in 1 room. 16 players isnt that "massive multiplayer online". FPSes fall under the category multiplayer online, not massive.

There are some FPS games that allow 32 players and i think I've played one before with 64. those are more massive. but real "MMO's" are usually where you can play with hundreds of people in a map. MMORPG's allow this.

And yeah he meant that you played too much FPSes and not MMORPG's (he didnt add the RPG)

I think chatmacros would work better, but not that you actually hear a voice saying "TANKER DOWN! RUN", that would be really strange, especially since the concept of a walkytalky in Fiesta does not make sense.

Actualy both fall under the category off MMO's, while one if MMOFPS Fiesta is and MMORPG (role playing game), where you are your own character created by yourself yet you have a very specific story-line to follow yet the ability to diverge and make your own advendtures. In short, you are the master of "your" future in rpg's. The MMO part does not stand for the people that can be on one map, but the people you can play with at any given time.

I honestly don't see why it can only be in one type of game or why that's an issue...this idea is for a group smaller than that found on fps anyway. I think its innovative to explore applying unconventional techniques, already its shown to be debatable and open for compromise. It would take getting used to but I think you have the start of a good idea, even if deep down I know OS are immune to forum suggestion.

I propose "I don't gift sorry", "I don't power level sorry" and "Didn't I just answer that?" be included.

Maybe "May i please have a buff? =]" command also. It's short for those that hate having to type it all out, and it'd please the clerics. c:

Wasnt actually finiding it important if fps is mmo or not, just saw him mentioning it and since I wrote a paper on it (here in portugal that actually was published :S) and did research on rpg and mmo background thought I'd answer that. XD

On Topic: These kind of commands would be extremly usefull! Though if there would be a way to make it able for them to pop up whenever I type "k" on my keyboard (or other keypads that aren't in use by fiesta commands) would be awesome! Just my 2 cents ^^

Oh it wasn't directed at you, I could see that, I probably should've quoted someone but was on different page so eh

@db yea I almost posted that, wasn't sure tho, it seems better than "biff plx" but you would never know if they would really write it if it wasn't the fastest way to, practically a metaphor for fake-nice, so I'm neutral on it rly.

Yeah they're macros. I wouldn't be worried about spam. They could keep it so it only works if you're in the party, and only that party can hear this short alarm once someone uses it.

Also Skype, Teamspeak, Vent and Steam all have free voice chatting software. If anyone parties THAT hard, you most likely are in a Guild and play with them often. (I'm just going with a generalization here. I know not everyone plays with the same people all the time)

A group voice chat may just work better.
