But the game engine looks identical, the character classes, poses, designs, etc. are identical.

This is beyond basic similarity, it is a clone.

I'll still play and I'm hoping it's a nice game, but.. Seriously, is it legal?

I'm not complaining, I just don't understand why people won't just admit that it is an obvious clone? If it's a good game, fair enough - I'm hoping that it is. But it's still crazy.

Well maybe you should look around the web because downloading it right now will do you no good. The CB is over and the OB has not started yet. No one is playing. As far as it being a copy and legal I am sure they are not stupid enough to make a game that is a carbon copy, name it differently and advertise it. There have to be some differences.

The only differences I can see is the name, and that they've re-drawn the characters. That is it. That has to be worth a law suit.

How can you say this game is a clone when you haven't even played it? The only thing you have seen are the screenshots. YouTube some of the player videos and maybe you'll have a better idea of how SoS differs from RO.

Yes, there are a lot of similarities but SoS is it's own unique game.

its call xenepic online IN japan but SoS for the USA version

and like i said in my previous post in other threads, how can any1 keep saying this game is a rip off from RO, so many things ARE different if u notice, like duh !

The sprites and maps do look horribly similar to Ragnarok Online, but I'm sure several aspects of SoS are different.

A lot of games look similar sprite wise. This just happens to look even more so.

Using a games 'engine' and even using the games sprites and texture maps do not constitute the same game. And may I mention that Ragnorocks engine and sprites are likely 'owned' by the company that licenses SOS to Outspark. Either that or the engine and said sprites never belonged to either development companies but were licensed for use on a general basis. No there is no reason why there would be a lawsuit, buying the rights to use a game engine or even the rights to use the 'exact' same game is perfectly legal. That said the game is not Ragnorock, it's been designed as a different game. Just like the above examples of Half Life and Counterstrike. Same game engines, same texture maps and models, completely different games. And if you want to get right down to it (I've said this before) all MMOs are rip offs of MUDs when it comes down to it. In fact Ragnorock is a direct rip off of a MUD 'called' Ragnorock. Same story and idea, same areas, everything. The only difference is that one had graphics and one had text.

but u guys have to accept if u have played RO sometime in ur lifes u shuld know that its a loot similar i played RO for Like 3 Years and i came to SoS and i was like Crazy. i said Dam this is RO :D . Yes it hace his Diferences but most of the stuff its exactly like RO so u cant say its complety diferent from RO because if u say that it means that u never played RO but dont complain about SoS just Enjoy it and for Those who dont like and says its a unfair copy of RO maybe ur Right .

i think even the graphics are diffrent actually, the main simalarity is that they both use 2d sprites with 3d areas

i've never played RO but you can look at alot of the console rpgs and say yepa same engines then again the main provider of those is sqauresoft so thats to be exspected but even some of the offbrands of RPGs not by squaresoft or square-enix as its now called can be said same engine diffretn graphics and story

because when wy aget right down to it battle systems and engines or universal unless made by that company

real time fighting is this not what this game is what was some of the first rpgs to coem up with that

I believe so, somehow i found a youtube video of Xenepic, and it was exactly what SoS is, maybe like some companies they wanted get it translated to see if the US Free MMO players were become drawn into it, so far i am!

There are many improvements over RO. I lag sometimes, in RO I end up walking the same 3 or 4 squares over and over and in SOS my char happily just stops moving for a second and then continues on. When I attack a monster in RO sometimes I end up walking backwards and sideway and eventually attack when the monster moves again, in SOS when I atk, even lagging, my char walks up and attacks.

I like the alt autoloot too, nice!!

IMHO, SOS gameplay is more like WoW than RO.

it has its dffrences but if you look in the key areas health mp area chat screen map skill bar on the bottom right about all its missing is the hotkey toolbar

Well, I've never played Ragnarok Online, but all games really are based off each other. It's easier than thinking up your own thing, so they take other games and revamp it.
