View Full Version : Crossplay Characters?

Just curious about people who play opposite gender characters. This in No way reflects upon anyone's sexual orientation (as if that mattered) but I am curious to see if I am the only one.
Kaeson in SoS is a guy, as am I, but I have played female characters in the past - including one in Fiesta now.
How about the rest of you?

never really enjoy being a female character, much prefer to be a boy. i feel like i'm playing as someone i'm not, yet that's what you're doing in a game, you're someone you aren't. i sure am difficult...

Yup I do it sometimes. Like on Nostale the male look for the characters is extremely pathetic. So I chose a female character and put my first name for my username so everyone knew I was a guy. Also bourght a self introduction saying I was a guy, so when people clicked on me is said that I was a male.
One of the moderators there crossplays even in the forums XD. Which I think is going a bit to far.
I was thinking about making a female character in nostale but I'm going to make mine a male. I think all anime based games create females better then males which is quite sad. My old sig in the forums here was a good example of this.

My main characters are always male (as they’re supposed to be a representation of myself in the virtual world… dunno if that made any sence ^^u), but for secondary characters that I use basically for specific/utility purposes I don’t mind them being female. As someone else said, female sprites tend to be prettier than male ones (maybe I’m biased in that perception xd), so indeed, in these cases I prefer the eye candy.

I will be the first to admit it... It is purely psycological in this game rofl. In games where players can pick sizes, I go for the more lean not too heavy not too light characters. But... Every time I have played a smaller siezed character, it always ends up rolling worse, dying more often or failing me miserably. Since male characters are more built generally then female, I go that route. Slender is nice to look at, but not nice for me to play.

I've used male chars before on RO. I just hated the way girl Paladins looked. -_-
So, it just depends on which gender looks better for me.

I am male, but I prefer to play female characters because when I have to look at a character for a few hours I'd rather look at a cute female. It dose get a bit awkward when a male character starts getting romantic. I just tell him I'm really a guy and that ends that.

You know, it's really kinda sad that people have become so attached to computers that they develop "feelings" for someone else online... in a depreved kind of stalker-loner-Charles-Manson kind of way...
*shakes head
"Go talk to someone in real life." is what I would say to all of them, but in the end all that would make me is a "cold, heartless, and unfeeling jerk" who, I might add, gets his kicks picking on the feelings of others. (No, that's not really how I am.)
Anyone else feel like this? Am I really just mean-spirited?

It's not being mean, cold, heartless or etc, it's being realistic.
Now, the fact that the masses and people in general prefer to live in complete fantasies rather than face the harsh cold reality is something different altogether. Why else do you think there’re so many religions or -for the that matter- urban tribes with different beliefs?
And of course, we here playing mmorpgs are not really that different in a way.

Heh - in Fiesta I love doing the "dance" our characters can perform. I don't have the heart to tell 'em I'm male... I mean, if they aske'd I'd tell the truth but I think they'll find out eventually anyway.
I have to say, however, I am actually surprised at how close the polls are.. I would have expected a wider margin... this has turned into an interesting experiment after all.

I hadn't considered being male because I don't see healers as male. Men aren't mothering in my eyes. Men like to kick ***, God bless them, and kill, so I see them as warriors, rawr.
I might be unimaginative, but I like gender role stereotypes because it makes breaking those stereotypes fun.

Wow, haven't been back in a while.
Anyway, I play both male and female characters, and I'm a boy. For my main, I will usually pick a boy, though it doesn't exactly matter to me what gender I play. Sometimes I'll just like the look of a model more than another and pick that, whether it's a boy or girl. Also, some MMORPGs lock the gender of a class so you have to be a certain gender to play the class you like.
For my SoS characters, I have a female mage named Rava and a male rouge named Vane. This was inspired by a story I'm writing right now, and I'm keeping it that way.
Well, I'll be around. See you all later.
P.S. See? Hmm...read your posts later?
P.P.S Whatever...XD

Weird, I would have swear that in average, there're more male doctors than females.

Doctors don't treat people, they treat diseases. There are more female nurses than male nurses because of this. I'm not saying men can't heal, I just think if someone's gonna be nice to you about your boo boo it's gonna be mom and not dad.

Anyway, so the conclusion is, a lot of people around here don’t give a damn about using a differently sexed sprite. Still not the majority, which is not strange considering this game is also full of 13 year old catholic boys (just general term to describe immature boys who follow the masses actually) who think using a female sprite if you’re male makes you the ghey! and you should burn in hell... right.

for me, its ok to crossplay. as long as you still know your true gender and tell others your real gender or they might start flirting with you! (male char flirting with female char when the player is acually a male):)
