View Full Version : Noob. As a Payout?

There was a time when the word noob could provoke wrist cutting or other emo-like behaviors. There was a time where being called a noob meant you were an ******* with no brain that should proberly quit the game they were playing.
I honestly think the time for this word is over. When I was playing NoS and someone called me a noob because I overpriced an item by only 3k I looked at how he said it. Looked at his level (being 5 more then mine) and I said to him. "Congratulations you beat me in having no life, hence your outrageous level while playing a game" Back in nos I was level 64 And 71 being the highest at this time I was one of the few elite. Not that I liked any of the persons that had around the same level as myself.
But enough about that.
What do you think about the word noob?
I honestly think its the worst kind of payout ever. I mean who cares about being called a noob? I'd rather say "You have no life because you play a game more then anyone else here good for you". "I have a low level because I only started awhile ago, good job being better then me do you have a girlfriend? http://forums.offtopic.com/images/smilies/liar.gif don't say that you do".
So yeah. What do you think about that "insult" ?
And before everyone says it: No you do not always start off a noob.

i usually use noob like a ofense and newbie to people who dont know so much about the game or other things ...

pfft. ''noob'' hate this word. it's not even a term to call new players, just as a damn insult; it's just used in the dumbist scenario's by the stupidist people. at times.. it's just frustrating. too see how they throw it out there.. jerks. >_>

You misunderstand. Newb = neo = new = low level
Noob = dummy = moron = someone pretending to be cool or know things they never have a chance of actually being/knowing
period.....

I always took it like this: If I was called a noob I knew the person I was dealing with was no longer worth a moment of my time. Obviously I was dealing with a child, who probably gets beat up daily for their lunch money and this was their one chance to feel superior to someone. Of course once the game was over for the day he/she had to go back to giving up their lunch money each day and I went back to work since MMOs were not around when I was in high school.
The word honestly does not bother me since its just an early warning device to me. Use it around me and I know not to add you to my friends list.

now that's BS, that's just someones simple twist to make sense of a variation to the word, n00b, newb, noob, nub. all the same insulting word no matter how you try to cover it up. :/

I think people made up those acronyms because they didn't want it to look like they had been insulted. And since when did neo = new ? ***?

Ever since it was in the dictionary that way.:D Yes Neo means new, He was not just the hero of a movie. Neo has a few meaning of course it depends on how it is used.

Problem is, as with everything else that gets overused, it loses its meaning and the context where it should be used gets completely blurred. In the end, the n00bs call everyone else a n00b and etc.
Anyway, for me a n00b is still someone who, not being new to the internets/games in general is still a complete idiot with no knowledge whatsoever of what the **** is actually going on around him/her and that tends to do/ask/etc stupid things simply because is to lazy/stupid to actually lurk a little more (since any info you may need is usually just a few clicks away). Besides, c’mon, nowadays every single person that gets to a mmorpg is either young enough to be part of the “technology/digital generation” or is adult/mature enough to supposedly have enough of a brain to read around a little, so whatever way you look at it, most stupid actions/questions/whatever come, not from ppl who’s indeed a novice at games/forums/teh internets, but from ppl who’s just plainly, a n00b.

Copypasta form wikipedia
Neo: A prefix signaling a "new" form or a revival of an old one
That's its original meaning, and btw, it was chosen as the name of the hero of the matrix because of that.
btw misery, are you a /b/tard o.o?

Not really, but since I still use it I supposed that was the most consequent answer to the poll X.x
Overall I use the word n00b not much as an insult to other ppl but actually as some kind of curse word to say to the winds when the over increasing amount of stupidness in the forum/game overwhelms me xd

Residing in 4chan, your /b/tard simply means randomtard.
Thus making your question null and void.
Care to rephrase?

Oh well, I suppose my age is getting to me xD
Nvm that, but since english is not my first language and it has been a while since I participated in anything english language related, I suppose some of my terms or ways of speaking may be kind of outdated or weird.
And of course, leet my ***, noob is probably the only thing I type like that xd
noob is an outdated term , most likely started by morons that couldnt take the time to help newer palyer in the game, I personaly took the time to train new players in most games i played
The problem is, there’s actually a big difference between someone who’s just new on a game but just needs a little nurturing and is capable of learning a few things by itself (as in, reading all the faqs and basic guides you can so easily find) and someone who’s just a completely lazy idiot who wants everything served on a silver table.
Guess which type is more common.

While I know the place, I'm not really a *channer myself :p
Still I don't think being called a /b/tard would be perceived as an insult

Leet or not. And it IS leet seeing as changing letter for numbers is in all categories leet, l33t blah blah blah.
And no its not algebra because algebra is the opposite of leet.
Replacing letters with numbers its just plain stupid.
The edit button works wonders. a /b/tard simply IS a randomtard. Considering all those /b/ /r/ /f/ /gif/ /a/ and even /h/ (LMAO) have all originated from 4chan.
Either the person who started that crapola knew about 4chans tags and decided they would use the /b/ = random one for some dumb reason.
Or they had absolutely no idea they were making an *** of themselves.

This will probably be the last thing I answer as I already seem like I’m just arguing for no reason.
What I meant when I said leet my *** is that I used the word n00b simply cause that was the way I better knew the word. Not because I actually cared for the numbers or not. I’ve never used leet and never would (other than to imitate the typical leet speaking little kid)
And btw, I sure have learned a lot from this whole tread (as I said, english is not a common language for me, so all these about ways of speaking has been helpful)

Learned? I didn't learn anything I simply wanted to discuss and find out everyones point on the whole thread. Maybe I did learn something if you want to say it that way.
But anyway I don't see you as arguing I see you as discussing.
And ok but anyone with any knowledge in proper English I would hope that they use letters instead of numbers. Because I had the choice of that "Anti-Leet" GifSig or this RaptorJesus sig and I'm religous so... http://forums.offtopic.com/images/smilies/hsugh.gif

"Noob" is the "nerdiest" term I've seen to insult people. XD It just doesn't sound smart, just "nerdy" in a weird way. I only use it when I'm joking around with my friends, but never when I'm mad at someone... it makes people look like idiots because they can't think of anything better in my opinion, but hey, I'm not you and you're not me. XD
Nice sig by the way. :3

Most people relate things that relate to the internet as nerdy. If you look at that this way, this noob is nerdy. In some ways there is no problem in being nerdy. Simply because it means a variety of different things.
Noob has many meanings, all of which are aimed at being insulting.

Wow, either I am feeling my age, or I just don't get around the net enough...I have no idea what half of you are saying, the abreviations for most things don't make sense, and I think anyone using l33t speak should be shot on sight. IF YOU WANT TO SAY SOMETHING TYPE IT OUT! End of rant, never coming back to this stupid thread.

Thanks for stopping by, Atmor. As for my opinion, I think "noob" is the lowest insult anyone could call you. It requires no cognitive thought whatsoever and really insults the sayer more than the sayee.

THE proper use of the word is noob is for some one that is NEW... people that use it to try and **** people off are stuiped and should get reset to levl 1 (and stuck there) so that can feel what noob really is.

I think noob is something you just say in the heat of the moment when your annoyed about something\with someone, it isnt really such a big deal.
Id rather just casually say "idiot" as that it subtle, but effective.
