Mob Drops

Are mobs supposed to stop dropping stuff when your level gets too high? I ask because when I try to get things like tough meat from weak mobs like slimes, I get absolutely nothing.

There are mobs at higher levels that drop tough meat though.

eventually they don't. then you have to buy it, or make an alt char.

Once a mob turns gray to you they rarely drop ANY items at all,the exp will drop to almost nothing(1 exp per usually) and they will no longer register as kills for leveling up a license. This is in part to stop high level players from farming low level mobs.
