Omg does the mage class suck??? T-T

I was reading in the mage forums about aoe for mages people were saying alot of stuff like mages can't aoe I just wanna know can mages gather a mob like temp and knights do and us their aoe skills I think doing aoe is awesome and also people say the Mage class is weak :( and we couldnt even with stand in pvp >_< and what is tank?

Ps when I say Mage class I mean app, Mage, wizards and so on

Wow...a lot of questions to answer in one post, and I'd love to...'cept I'll be on this thread til noon trying.

I would find an experienced Wizard in-game who has time to answer all of your questions that you have as an aspiring Mage. But to give you the Reader's Digest version:

1) Mages CAN mob and AOE kill like "tank" classes, they just need really good gear to do it well.
2) Mages are not weak. A level 96 Wizard has the highest AOE DPS of all classes at that level.
3) Mages can withstand PvP; they're not great for 1vs1 duels, but in team battles they rock!

"Tank" means....well, what does an M1A2 Abrams Tank do in real life? It cruises through the battlefield impervious to whatever's attacking it. Obviously, this is a reference to high DEF, which is really all that's required in order to do exactly what I've described.

I'd recommend farming for PQ items and saving up for really good Fallen Leaves gear so that you can start AOEing in your early 60s.

I've been a mage for about 2 years now (2 year anniversary on June 2nd). Mages in this game are really underpowered compared to other classes of the same lvl, due to ingame items. If everything was just our clean builds and no attk/mattk boosting, we'd go over the top with our dmg. But there are so many items that boost attk and not mattk in this game, that it makes us seriously useless. Archers can spam faster than us and do tons of more dmg due to all the attk stuff.

Mages can mob maps at or slightly below their lvl only if they have amazing gears. I was able to tank maps when I was lvl 68 when I had all +5/6AP gears, Cloak of Love, Green Cow Bell, and a Mogras Helm. All that to tank a map that I get 1-2% per full map AoE.

Mages AoE shines above everyone else's. I have not yet gotten Volcano and Freeze Splasher, but I have gotten Lightning, Frost, and Icicle. I can say that they do the best dmg among all classes, even when the other classes are boosted with attk items. Not to mention, our Click AoEs (AoEs that require to click on the ground to activate) never miss. These are Lightning, Icicle, and Freeze Splasher. Sadly their power can't be increased via the Amplification skill.

PvP is certainly tough for mages. With our slow casting speed, high MP costing skills, low wt, and lack of mattk boosting items, we are at a disadvantage. But there are some Mages, Wizards, and ArchMages that are a force to be reckoned with. One of these ppl that come to mind is AnimePimp66. A lvl 151+ ArchMage. He's so tough to take down in PvP. Once you start to get some higher lvl skills, life in PvP gets easier. When I got Magic Beam, which stuns the opponent long enough to get 1 or 2 extra hits on them, I was able to do a lot more. It's surprising how much 1 or 2 extra attacks can do you. And when you get the higher lvl skills when lvl 100+, ie Ice Ball, Fire Ball, and Magic Flame, you will do A LOT of dmg in a short amount of time.

And finally, a tank is someone that goes out and agros a bunch of monsters and takes little to no dmg from them.

4)we dont have nearly as much enhance gearz like inteligence wingz

Mages are seriously one of the most underpowered/neglected classes in this game. I realized that months ago, and dropped it like it's hot.

Mages / wizard / Archmage are the best class to aoe if u are really rich to spend a lot moey to make +6 ap6 gears with all sc stuff and new def mount they can aoe like all other classes. Due to their damage it#s really prifitable like xeros was aoeing bengel with a damage of 1,4 k with volcano.
Indeed mage class hits equall with buffed up archer if u can afford int cat bell and magic attack attack mounts especially afriphant .
In pvp mage have a hard time depending which class u need to fight to .
cuz rouge / sin class have a big advantage against wizard / ranger.
but warrior are easy to take down in pvp as wizard.

Mages are meant to be soft and squishy, period. If you're looking to tank like a warrior, the mage class is NOT for you. Not every mage can get their hands on a new Lv3 Def mount, so more often than not, you'll find yourself at the mercy of finding a party looking for an assister, or doing some hardcore solo/duo grinding.

It's also not a class for the weak-willed; if you're not willing to give it your all, you won't get anywhere. Then again, if you have a high-level tanker who will pwlvl you straight to archmage, you're set for life... e.e But it's fun; if you're willing to give it a shot and actively try to learn the nuances of the mage class, you'll find it's the biggest underdog in SoS. When I was a noob app, I was regretting my choice very early on when I found the class difficult to learn. Once I had it all figured out, I never looked back.

i dont think mages are that great....their def is so lame that you can only get a few attacks out before you get picked out and die. fighters get all these debuff attacks, and a fairly low cd stun aoe attack.

mages has a fire attack that doesnt burn.
but a ice attack that freezes.
youll eventually use magic blast soo often. cause every other skill sucks.
fear cd is too long, so its not that useful.
and you will be an aoe slave, so be prepared for that. :)

if mages have more effective spells than just having 10 flashy attacks then theyll be cool.
but meh.... thats just me. i would like to have more status effect spells. than being all flashy.

Yeah necro.. but int classes alo miss:

- Magic spa egg
- Magic brisquette item from the bucket spa quest
- Old Mount with magic stat
- Magic towel for spa

Not sure if I missed something.. also, they already have int pearls, missing only magic ones.

.. Time to get 136 for freeze splasher and then hate it because it burns more than 1/4 of my mp bar and requiring 3 tiny mp pots to make up for it. Yes!

i would say the only thing that sucks about the mage class is the def. its also very hard to lvl up if u hate grinding, and there will be times when u have to if u cant find an aoer to bind for
