The shadow kills me in 3 hits, how are you meant to do this?

whoah thats the first, ive never heard some1 say it was hard before O.o well i suggest you just uniquip your gears in the game that way when you go in your shadow will be defenceless, then you can put your gears back on and fight it easily...and then after you fight the swordsman and the rest in the dark part...take them off again and go to the end till your shadow comes , then put them back on :D

The wiki says it doesn't use your gear stats, it's just looks, so that won't change anything.

yea but if yu take yur weapon off its less dmg or no dmg..even if its for 10 secs or so

This quest is so hard on a mage. I did this on a cleric and fighter and it was easy, but this is ridiculous.

scrolls are your best ally for this if you have trouble. T1 vit, eva, def and mag def. If you can, spring for a few dozen T1 pots...those make it much easier.

If you still have trouble, go to Elderine and ask for a buff.

Thanks, this time I went in with a buff and a tier 2 mag. def. scroll and I wasn't getting hit as hard.

I have been having the same trouble as you. I take my armor off and put it back on right away, with high lvl cleric buffs AND scrolls and die so easily. I spam HP stones and HP pots and I still die very quickly. It's not funny.

You're right, it's not funny that people still believe that bogus myth about taking your armor off.

Foolproof way to do it:
- Make sure you have the highest level of gear available for your class equipped.
- Make sure you have all skills fully upgraded and aligned to your skill bar in a way you're comfortable with.
- Use a level 15 weapon. Remember to use shield if your class supports it.
- Buy as many hp/sp stones as your character can hold.
- Buy / make potions. 30 hp pots and 30 sp pots of tier 1 should be more than enough.
- Scroll up.
- Get a buff.
- Go kick some shadow butt.

If you still can't do it, don't give up. Try again til you get it right.

EDIT: I don't recommend taking your armor off, it will only complicate things further since you have to re-equip really fast once inside. It's easy enough to do without exploiting that bug.

@grummin
There really was such a bug, it's not a myth. I used it myself for my first jobchange, but I think they fixed it by now.

With respect, you are probably not doing it right. If your gear and skills are up to date, and if you have scrolls, a buff, plenty of pots, and a full load of stones, you should be able to succeed without too much difficulty.

Take off your armor & weps before the shadow appears, then put them back on.
EDIT: I don't care if it's a myth, still seemed to work for my mage.

They have less defence than you & you should be able to kill them quicker at least. The Shadow QUest for mages is *** XD

the armor takking of this is all fake, ur shadow twin is already predetermined with stats (def, dmg, etc) that just wastes time and gives ur shadow a chance to hit for more dmg, its really easy to do, i did it with every class with full stones, a t2 buff and a few t1 hp pos here and there. and as other ppl said, if u keep failing then u are surely doing something wrong.

Operative terms: was, and fixed it.

Class dismissed!

put on a t2 vit and especially a t2 m.def scrolls (to counterattack shadow mage hits), max HP stone count and a bunch of t2 HP potions and a buff from a high leveled cleric from your academy or something. If your pure INT, it should take you 5 minutes--if your build is something else, it'll take longer but you shouldn't die in 3 hits
