Save yourself trouble and buy one. Look for a plus sign and number on the right next to the swords name when you have your curse on the item. The higher the plus sign the better and prettier. Trust me let someone else do the work.

You enhance them. However, unless you invest real life money on special stones in the Fiesta Store, you will probably break your weapon, blow a ton of in game money, come on to the forums, and rant about how you hate Fiesta and how breaking 5 swords because you didn't use said stones ruined your life.
It's pretty risky, and I don't do it. I may try with the special stones, but don't do it with just elrue: you will fail and break a LOT of expensive weapons.
