View Full Version : So, what will be expected of those who test?

Now that the [so-called] "closed" (*) beta has come to an end, and the "open" beta will soon begin, what exactly will be expected of those who test?

For instance, in the game, I saw there were numerous spelling, grammatical, and other "really rough around the edges" type errors in most if not all dialog boxes. I presume these were addressed by the (multitude) of testers in the first part (I apparently started really late in the beta), so if these show up in the "open" beta should we be reporting them? [and to whom, or is there an in-game mechanism for bug reporting, like maybe "/bug"?]

Has playability been addressed, or are we to test this in the "open" beta? One thing I really liked about this game compared to many other MMORPG's is that at the start, you have to complete a series of tutorial-style familiarization exercises before you are even allowed to start bashing monsters. On the other hand, once I leveled-up to the point where I could choose a proper "role", I noticed that the monsters only dropped items which you were already given when you made the change -- generally, you would expect a monster to drop either a spell you haven't yet learned, or "plus" equipment (enchanted/enhanced/whatever-you-want-to-call-it) Dropping items you're already equipped with seems rather pointless.

[admittedly, I didn't play long enough to reach monsters that were well above the basic level of any "effective-first-level" character]

(*) a note about the "closed" beta: I noticed several people mentioning that they were able to "get in" without a proper invite, and actually I think I'm one of them. It turns out I found this via a click-thru ad on Myspace where it was listed as a "free" game without mention of "beta" anywhere. When the "closed" beta actually shut down, I noticed the ads changed from SoS to Fiesta

wow you were a lucky one to get in, but I really dont know if it was random with the invite I'm just glad I got one. Anyway if you would have had the chance to play longer the drops did become enhanced equipment and skill books, of chorse you can enchant equipment with a xan stone but good luck finding one.As for the errors that were seen throgh out the game they should be fixed after all the closed beta lasted for around 2 months. I guess if anyone still finds problems they should report it in the forms just like before.

The rest is too long, and I was lazy to read it.

To this, the answer is simple.

Closed Beta is to test bugs, spelling and whatever, basically the overall internal physics and functioning of the game.

Open Beta is just to test the capacity of the server to receive vast amount of players (basically, to stress test it), therefore the only thing expected from players is to go ahead and enjoy themselves. Most mayor bugs should of have been found on this point, so only some minor ones or spelling errors are left.

I would expect though, that you can post in the "Bug Reporting" section of this forum if you find anything else when open beta finally rolls around.

That is pretty much correct to the above replies...and I know this wasnt mentioned in the thread yet but I thought I would throw it in. I really hope they fix the coordinates for the OB because it was difficult to find someone who wasnt in your party on the maps in CB...I know you could type in something like /coor (i dont remember) to get your coordinate location but that really served no purpose at the time because you couldnt use them for anything (that I knew about) such as how it is used in "ToP online" (SoS is much better but that is just an opinion). So I figured that they were going to fix it in OB. It would be nice if you could browse all the users online, too, but it is still really fun without it :)

If anyone knows anything please reply!

I hope I dont sound stupid for giving my thoughts and if I do, please dont chew me out. This is one of the first times I've ever used a forum so Im new to this...

Well, I haven’t played the game, so I can’t be completely sure of how the coordinates worked there, but in most games they are a pair of numbers, one for up/down motions while the other for left/right. Therefore, if you where say on 247,300 and moved right a few steps, you would now be on 255,300. Now if you moved up, you would be on 255,307 and so on.

Therefore, if you where looking someone on a map and they gave you their coordinates, by comparing that to your own coordinates it would be possible to move toward that person.

Hope that helps, not sure if that made much sense ^^u

what you are saying sounds like a good idea. but I really dont think its going to be put into the open beta or anything like it. Yeah it was vary annoying to meet up with someone but people just said to meet up at a maps entrance and that worked out pretty well most cases.but your on your own trying to get there lol.

You can find party members by hovering over their names in the party pane, and it would tell you what area they were in. It didnt work for me on the friends list, but it would be something nice to have.

oktwothings ifyou have it show name then there name showed up in yellow and if i remember right you could se your party members location on the map

but as in viesta they have a grid system a1 a2 a3 a4 a5 a6 a7 a8 a9 b1 b2......etc

so maybe they will implement that

Yea i know all that about the party members because i was a beta tester. I was just saying it would be easier if they did something with the coordinates like they did with ToP. The map would be awesome if all players showed up on it too, but it's up to the game managers to do that. That was what a lot of players did to meet up with each other was to meet at entrances (I know i did). I never thought about one player giving his/her coordinates on the map to the other player to find each other, but that would be to difficult and take too long lol. I was also wondering if the people that tested will get any special privelages with the game, a prize, or some type of commemoration, ect. No big deal if they dont but i just heard that as a rumor when they were about to close the server a few weeks ago. I just brought this up because the the title question made me think about that... I just thought it would be nice. I have another thought, too...I never heard about this but was there a 'follow' feature on sos? I was playing and i found many times when that would have come in handy :p
