I/O A Fiesta Fanfic




Prologue

Tired and exhausted, John was unsure of what to make of the email he had just received. Invite a friend. John was puzzled, sure he had friends, but why would he want to invite them, this was after all his escape from reality. After preparing a quick snack john logged into the world of Isya.

I/O Chapter 1 The world of Isya, Majestic and Treacherous.

John quickly found himself in a problem, he had last logged off in Passage of the Abyss. Much to his surprise the room was empty. Normally John wouldn't think twice about however it was what happened next that shocked him.

While usually quiet and reserved his character ChaoticTwist was being assaulted by what he believed to be his friends. Without hesitation he attempted to flee, but to no avail. His character was dead, his trust betrayed, his friendship for not.

It was then that john had made up his mind about inviting friends. He thought, if these were really my friends they wouldn't have done this. John kept to himself the following few hours until his phone rang. As he looked down at the glimmering LCD on the phone he recognized a name that he had not seen in ages, it was his old friend Mark.

Mark had moved away from their hometown in order to further his education. They had vowed to keep in touch and John now more than ever realized how much he missed the old times.

After a long talk and reacquainting John decided to ask how Mark felt about online games. John had no way of know that Mark was also in need of an escapism at that time but was thrilled when Mark accepted his offer to join him in the world of Isya.

John set up a vendor for the night and continued to ponder what he and Mark would do in the coming weeks.

I/O Chapter 2: The world of Isya. His new home


Mark's semester away had come to a close and with it a new world awaited him. He had just been hired on as a marketing consultant for a small research group. His life was rapidly changing as were his desires. He no longer had the sudden urge to play Fiesta online. Throughout the week he and John quested together hoping to both hit 60 and celebrate.

As they logged in tonight to chat Mark broke the news that he wasnt going to be on. John was devastated. He was sure that if there was anyone he could trust it was Mark. The intensity raged and soon it spewed over into the game. ChaoticTwist went into a rage and returned the devastation he had just endured in hearing the news over the game to Marks character OnyxLament. Stunned but literally and physically he could do nothing but watch as his character was beaten down. It was at that time that he picked up the phone and called John but to no luck as he did not answer. Instead he left the abyss a mental wreck and worse for ware than before.

John isolated himself and vowed never to trust anyone, whether real or digital and to this day has upheld that.


It was later that night that his guild Solitude was formed. He swore that only those people who felt like him could ever be invited into his new home. Much to his surprise the first member to join his guild was not a male. Her name FrostFyre and as they talked they grew akin to each other.

A week later John and FrostFyre had talked, to their surprise they both lived not 20 minutes apart. After a brief discussion John and Erica decided it was best not to mix their game with reality, after all that had caused them pain in the past.

With that the two logged out for the evening. Yet john couldn't stop thinking about Erica. He felt as if he knew her. Little did he know how right he was.

I/O Chapter 3: The World Unplugged.


It was a wet and otherwise dull day, the sun never came out, perhaps an omen of events to come. John sat around at the R&D meeting, when it came his time to present the development progress he stood up and showed that in its current state the project of a fully immersive game was years away from being realized. As the team discussed his research, his eyes caught the name of what he presumed to be a new hire. The meeting came to an end John walked over to talk to the new team member. "Hello, my name is John.", he said as he introduced himself. Taking a look over her he quickly noticed the name tag that was required for clearance into the labs. "I don't believe I've seen you here before... " she then quickly chimed in, "The name is Erica, i was transferred in to be the new project manager."

The name rung through his head he knew Erica from the game had lived close, but they hadn't ever talked about work let alone what they looked like. Curious to know more about her he invited her out to lunch. Erica declined the offer. "Sorry she said, i need to get thoroughly caught up on the project."

A bit dejected John went back to work. His day was unimpressive and nothing much got done. As the work day came to an end he noticed Erica still in the office reading. It wasn't that he was shocked to see someone working hard, but by comparison to the previous project leader she seemed determined to his previous boss.

He left the office that night and returned to his hobby of gaming. Upon signing into fiesta he noticed that Frostfyre hadnt been online that day. Slowly he started to put the series of coincidences together. However, he would have to wait to question what he thought as FrostFyre never did come online.
