Hello and Welcome to the Hippogras Guide!~ This thread will be under constant construction. This guide is to give you an idea of what to expect, tips on how to bring the Hungry Hungry Hippo down, maps in which the Hippo spawns, drop rates, and what the drops contain. Feel free to add to the mix. Credit will be given to those who contribute.
Wondrous Hints & Tips!~
Hippogras tend to dwell by the safe zones, occasionally making their way to the middle of the map due to stalking or being lured there. When killed enough in the maps, they will respawn in the maze. To circulate them more, explore the maze to kill them. In the end, they love to gather in large groups in Amorica making training very difficult there. It is best to take on a Hippogras with a friend, a party, or a guild party. Going at it alone could result in a nasty death. You will lose 7% in this case.
These magnificent beasts have a mean critical hit. These babies hit anywhere from a 600 to 1k crit. (That 1k crit was given to a 14x Shadow Master to date) To substain a Critical Hit by these fat wonders, your HP must either be or above 1000 HP. The Hippos crit at least every 4-9 hits. Of course it differs from person to person, class to class. It seems the Hippo's HP is in the 60k range.
When attempting an attack on the Hippogras make sure you have considered these ideas.
Time Your Stuns: That's right, he can be stunned. This will give you a chance to regroup, heal, and buff during a stun.
Keep Blaze Handy: This is a great skill to have. It gives you a decent step ahead. So for some of those players who felt Blaze was useless... think again. :P
Keep Any HP Extenders Handy: HP Buffs such as the Passionate Chocolate or the Spark Cash HP Buff will save your life! Other items such as the Pig Backpack, Cloak of Love, HP Mounts, HP skill pets, HP pearls, & HP epic wings can add to your HP as well.
Keep Mystic Health/Divine Flasks: Depending on your level he hits pretty hard. For my level which is Lv. 112, he hits me between 400-550.
Attack Buffs: Stock up on Spa Eggs, ATK Candy & if you can afford it, a Spark Cash Towel for the +30 to ATK. Have an ATK mount, ATK skill pet, ATK pearls & ATK epic wings to help you out. Though I have noticed that your ATK does a random amount of damage to him.

It also drops 1D Int Cat bell as well. I never knew they dropped fantasy lucky balls. Hm, interesting. That's pretty cool. Also, if you're a ranged fighter, don't be afraid to solo it. I've killed two in mardigras alone with relative ease.

It also spawns in Amorica Dungeon and really the only people that seem to have trouble with it are people who have lived in east eir maps and have no idea how to kill a mob hitting more than 2s...

Uhhh... I had trouble with it... especially alone. I wasn't even aoe'ing either. Just merely running maps becuz I was extremely bored. I made this guide for people who are experienced or non-experienced. Thanks for the input tho!~
EDIT: Also... I don't know about you, but when I was in a map in my travels throughout xen, being the level required for those maps, never have I been hit for 400+ by a single mob.....

well it doesnt really help much for lvls 91 and below our stuns fail on hippos.

If a player is lv 91, they have no business in Temp+, unless grinding, with a party, or are ranged characters, which all should have at least one workable stun -___-
After killing it 8 times, I got:
1D Pirate Cloak and 1D Dragon Bow (with a lv 115 sin, 128 warrior, and 122 priest) in Tin
Nothing (with lv 115 sin and 122 priest) in Harding
Xen (with a lv 115 sin, 107 wizard, and 122 priest) in Harding
Nothing (with a lv 115 sin and a lv 8x cleric) in Harding
Nothing (with a lv 115 sin, 107 wizard, and 122 priest) in Harding
Nothing (with a lv 115 sin, 107 wizard, and 8x cleric) in Harding
Nothing (with a lv 115 sin, 107 wizard, and 8x cleric) in Harding
Nothing (with a lv 115 sin, 107 wizard, and 8x cleric) in Harding
(I listed party cause I heard it mattered. If gender matters too, the wiz was female, the warrior was female, the cleric was female, the priest was male, and the sin was male)
Note should also be taken that Phibes said the Hippo's are set to respawn on any given map within 4-6 after the first kill, and there shouldn't be any more than 2 on any map at any given time except Amorica, though, players have sighted more than 2 on other map(s).
Also note; The hippo hits with reguard to your defence. If you have higher def, he hits you lower. I get hit ~400 with enough def to AoE Harding/Tin. As long as you have flasks, you should be good. I can solo it w/ flasks in about 5-7 minutes (I only hit 300, spa'd nd everything) -_- Point being, if you try to beserk, it'll be noticeable, in more both damage dealt and damage taken.

Just clocked 2 more kills (both in Harding):
9th kill with a lv 116 sin, 126 sin, 131 pala, dropped nothing.
10th kill with the addition of a lv 90 cleric, nothing, again.
Male sins, female healers.
1:10 gets SC, 1:10 gets a xen, is my math :x

ive killed hungry mr hippo 22 times ';..;'
umm ive gotten nothing from 6 of em, 3 1-day pirate cloaks, 1 fantasy lb, 4 1-day int cat bells, 2 1-day pow cat bells, 1 1-day dragon bow & 11 of em dropped 1500 krons(note that krons do drop with items too) :D
mr hippo is good to kill in a prty if your a noob xP & everyone is right you have to have stuns that work ~ i do around 1.2k dmge on it & it takes me like 3 min to kill one. & i thought hippos were a bad idea but theyve turned out to be great. noone can kill it in my map & my map is safe from low lvl noobs with lvl 55 def mounts ';..;' finally sumthin good outspark. -applaudes- :D

Damage should be slightly decreased though -_- I as TRYING to help a friend lvl, and while I had some dmg, I saw the hippo, pot lag'd, and died -_____-
She didn't lvl.
However, the kill netted a lv 116 sin, 126 sin, 122 priest, and 107 wizzy 1D POW catbell, and 2 1D Dragon Bows (wizzy was only female). Apprently, it maybe be 1/10 :x

I killed around 40 hippos in different maps . mostly with Sm or ranger . Just wanted to add that the damage on him isn't random. With 200 attack u start to hit it 3 or more.
Around 300 attack u can hit it around 1k . Of course it depends on class and skill lvl .
Until now I noticed that there was 3 hippos in Armorica Cave which isn't that bad cuz they hit the same like the mobbs there.
For the information I solo killed it without a party if it contributes rather I get any drops or not.
I think there is only unicorn lucky balls cuz I asked many people who got some and they said it was a unicorn one.

Well for my class and level my damage is random. My ATK, whenever I've faced the Hippo has been at 110+215. I hit anywhere from 160-650 ATK.. so in my opinion that's random. Most of my hits are in the 500 range. Thank you for your input tho. It's much appreciated.

hmmm whenever I face the hippo my damage stays around the same area depending on if i'm using attack wings/bell or def wings/bell and either auto attacking or using skills. The only time I see low damage is when I use normal attacks as I don't rely entirely on skills to cause damage. To get such a wide range of damage are you also poking the hippogras at the same time? The multiplier for force blast/evil dead at your level could take damage close to 200 and put it up as high as 650 if i'm not mistaken, and be as low as 500ish.

Naw I don't have him double clicked. Maybe it's just me... *shrugz* but all I know is my damage is random..but generally it does stay in the 500 range.

I tried to kill a hippo as templar thought I'm around her lvl just didn't changed yet but for me I hit around 700 -800 without any special . At least for me it's not special cuz If i add more attack stuff I gonna hite more. xd

Man does that thing have dodge. A handful of my attacks miss. D<
On topic: My attacks aren't random I do 1100-1500 depending on the skill I use (Lv.2 Ice Ball would be around 1.1k where as master magic flame is around 1.5k). Maybe you read it wrong? Regardless, 100 seems like a poke to me. I don't know that's strange if you use FB/ED and your attack ranges like that.

i have a lvl 144 shadow master with over 400 defense and have been aoeing amorica, not just that they have halfed the mobs in there now, but to top it all off i have spent over 14 hours a day for 30 days (time for exp boost) and still have 0% because this hippo hits me for 900 crit damage it is impossible to grind/aoe/lvl in any of them maps when you have 6 of the hippo's in the same map. why is it that CSR, and GM's have decided to make the game unplayable? i thought the concept of the game is to play it. But now i have spent over 10,000 sc just for 2 boost books and cant even get 1 lvl in the game now. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED !!! maybe a cap of how many hippo's in each map, or something but for crying out loud 6 of them in 1 map is over the top. Here is a suggestion to the GM's and CSR of outspark..... try fixing stuff that has been broken for over 2 years now. "dont fix what isnt broken". Its a shame really because this use to be a good game before.

or at least let the hippo just spawn once a day on each map, it is a pain when u c 2 or more hippos on a map, or if it does spawn when there is other hippos on map at least make them none agro XD

The hippo was implemented to shoo the low lvled new def mounted nubs from the maps where they don't belong.
If the hippo was spawned once a day, and killed by a hippo hunter, what's the use of it then?
If they can't handle the hippo, or their stunn doesn't work on it, then just get back a few maps where your stun works.
During my hippo hunting, I saw a lot of 2nd class new def mounted players waiting in the sz until someone kills it. At this lvl, 2nd class should be in library, and not in eagle-prem aoeing doing 200s.
I agree to nerfing his attack to 200-300 to prevent a critical one hit kill, but the respawn rate is ok, hippo is just doing his job ;)

Umm I have on big problem with these hippos. I'm a lvl 111 wizard and these things kill me in 2 hits with magic shield. Is Outspark saying that I don't belong in Templar Gorge!? Even in Temp, with 140% boost, I'm lucky if I get .04% per kill. And now I'm basically supposed to accept that since I don't have hax def, that I shouldn't be in Temp!? I CALL *%&&#!^)!!!
Sure this is a good idea for keeping out people who aren't supposed to be there, but I was under the impression that I SHOULD be at least allowed to train somewhere where I can get fair experience per kill! In my personal opinion, the hippo's stats should be tailored to the map that it's in because as far as I can see, the one in Amorica is exactly the same as the one I saw in Celephane. Both did around 600 dmg to me. Note: I have 584mp and 444hp. None of my stun or slowing skills work on it, and I'm not anywhere near rich enough in this game to afford any significant stat-boosting items or pets!! Once again, I'm basically forced to either stop training or go back to Phildevilt Plateau where I get less than 0.01% per kill.
All I'm asking for is a monster that is tailored to the map it inhabits. For example, if the monsters on that map do around 100 dmg per hit, then the hippos should do maybe 150. I can understand tanks having no problems with these hippos since they sare able to survive for more than 3 seconds against them, but what about the rest of the people that are the same level, but don't have that kind of def?

These hippose do need to be reduced in number, and have their attacks reduced a bit. It's either reduce their attacks, or increase our hp per level slightly. Maybe hp/mp increases could occur at our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th class change. Currently the only benefits to changing class are new gears and new skills... a 10% increase in hp/mp at each of our class changes may make the hippos more bearable.

today i seen 4 hippos in eagle....and em as far as hp goes...with tiger suit on i have about 800 hp.. and i can take at least 1 hit from him..non crit...might be different per class...sometimes i engage in battle with hippos with only 700 hp...and can still take 1 hit...so i dunno
and as far as killing them...i dont think they were implemented into maps for tankers to kill.....aoer's fear hippos....i laugh at them...call a ranged fighter to kill a hippo (mage,archer,ranger,wizzie)...although i have never seen a mage or wizzie really go hunt them...archer/rangers have the full capability of controlling/killing hippos...it kinda seems like an attemp to encourage the tankers/aoers to party with ranged fighters because ranged classes got it so bad....but i think changing the xp gain by adding assister/binders to a party, that would benefit both aoer and assister should have been brought up a long time ago...anyways maint almost done ^^ see you guys in sos! =p

LOL I love hunting those things when I'm bored :D. I can usually take 2-3 hits from a hippo, but my lack of speed and weak defense means I'm at the mercy of any aggros who decide they want a brisket a la wizard at the same time that I'm attacking a hippo.
Lately I haven't been hunting them due to the high volume of tankers whining that they can't aoe anymore due to the hippos, especially the ones that solo aoe (or make a 2-man party with just them and a healer) and hog the maps. I mean, if I'm passing through and you're going to spam my chat box with "we're aoeing here, go away", then by all means, kill the hippo yourself. If you've dropped it in the sz, guess what? I'll give you a hand and bring him out. :3

It's funny to c that the people who wanted these mobbs now argues about it. Hippo is supposed to mean to get a ranger or wizard in the party. But if the binder can't kill one it's rather new. I see lvl 80+ Archer killing them with a bit patience . They just need to avoid to get aggros in they ways. However I think it's be good to lower their magic defense abit to allow higher damage throught wizard / healer class. The amount of hippo is ok and damage too cuz it makes STA as useful build again . Before all gone for high attack but low hps .

I do not agree with this statement. It is nice the hippos are here. I have alwayz been one of those rare tanks who enjoy binders and support them... but I can't alwayz find a binder to party with me.... So I don't think there should be anymore spawn rates for these guys. I pretty much semi retired becuz no freakin binders wana aoe with me and I'm constantly dying by crits with these things. In turn losing almost all motivation to even level....or to even stick around for this game. They need to nerf it a little bit. That is my opinion and mine alone.

Half the number of field bosses that can be in a map at one time.
Remove Hippogras from Templar to Harding.
Add a field boss that's a little weaker than Hippogras from Big Apple to Harding.
Add another field boss that's a little weaker than that one in Templar to Oda
Increase exp of the Hippogras by 500-1000% and give other field bosses similar but less exp.

xD I pretty much already did quit. I log every now and then.. When they decide to put in new content, maps, and fix the stuff they said they are I might come back. But as it stands... I have no motivation to level nor any type of reward for earning my levels. I'm tired of the grind... I would spend 15+ hours grinding and not even get a level... or I would die via Hippo and lose all the exp I just spent hours getting. I just don't see a reason for coming back right now. I speak to most of my friends on skype so yea.. ^^ Thanks tho.

so gm said hippo was good u lv up slow u play slow u play long...thet y they create hippo in all map...they hope u kill 1 by 1 ..get 0.01% every min so 24 hours kill u get 15% 1 day ....in 1 week u can lv up...maybe u will become mummy ......

I would like to comment on this here... Leveling up is already slow.... Playing speed is entirely up to the player... and this game... is already long and drawn out........

Hippos do not cost 10% exp. Exp loss is standard across all maps and it is 7%. It has nothing to do with the monster that kills you. It is set to 0% in towns and in Dimen. Drift & Rurara.

confirmed.......118 Ranger can take 1 hit from a hippo with like 507 hp....with +5/6 gear, cape, and green bell, lvl 9 def skill pet, and lvl 3 old def mount.....but after that the mob i was walking decided to eat the rest of me -.-

7% lose already heavy...how get get back 7%? that hippo can kill u in 1 hit which games make boss can kill u in 1 hit n that hippo not lv 180 monster just lv lower then 150..

I heard someone else lost % (I'm guessing 3) when they died by a hippo and also had a 7% pendant on. Could you possibly check the % loss for hippos again? I'm sure my friends wouldn't lie. .___.

Not really sure, I was hoping they'd reduce it's defense and attack even slightly, doesn't seem like they did tho. To early to really tell need someone else to confirm. They could have adjusted it's spawning tho. As well as adjusting what it drops.

well, I went hippo hunting before and after maintenance.
before maintenance : killed nearly 10 hippos, only 4 or 5 items dropped
after maintenance : killed 7, 7 item dropped.
Maybe they changed it to 100% drop rate?
attack and defense still the same tho ><

Definitely not 100% drop rate. Just killed quite maybe 6 or 7 and only 3 dropped anything. :(
It would be nice to know what exactly was adjusted, even if it was minor. GMs?

You sure it's attack decreased? it's hard to tell since it hits so hard. If it does hit for less, it's not by much.
Just killed a hippo on my archer solo at 85. It took 15 minutes @.@. I have found out a few things tho. You need 224 Attack/Magic to deal a constant 2 damage, meaning it's defense is 448, so you obviously need more than 224 attack to deal some decent damage. Also at my level it gives .48%, which is just under twice as much exp as the monsters in Mardi. Dropped a Int bell and a xen for me.

It's hard to tell cuz for some class like sin attack needed to hit hippo is lower like 210 or so . It depends on what kind of skill u use too

I noticed after maintenance the Hippo did not chase you like it use to when you hit it...
Before Maint if you hit it it would chase you down to the ends of the world. After Maint if you got even slightly too far it would stop chasing.
Of course this was just with one hippo so not sure if it was a bit glitchly or this was an actual change.

nah, i'm confident I decoded the damage formula of us vs monsters, as well as how to tell how much defense monsters have. Currently you need more than 224 attack/magic to cause a small amount of damage, regardless of class and skill used. You need even more than that to deal big damage and/or stun it. It's only less if the hippo's defense is determined by the map it's in which is doubtful.

That's only true for higher level people with decent hp. On my warrior I can kill a hippo if I have a healer healing me, and I keep blaze on. I can survive 2 hits without heals so I can barely survive a critical, but if I don't get 2 minor heals after a critical gets landed i'm a dead guy, also I can't stun it unless I have fist up and toasty egg. Hippos one hit kill archers of various levels, I imagine it's the same with sins/templars without Sta/hp mount/buff and wizards without magic shield.

This week's maintenance will be increasing the EXP value of Hippogras, so that you hippo hunters will get a little more bang for your buck.

I'm a sin 8D Without the boatload of STA in my build, I'd be at a little under 600 HP at lv 132 e.e Meaning no tanking crits for me :/
However, with an OLD lv 3 HP mount (the difference is 100+ HP), my STA, and HP wings, I can tank even a hard crit. I usually duo with a Warrior/WL and occasionally use an HP buff (KUDOS TO SPONSORED ITEMS- <3 ALDO AND KLONDIKE :3) I can easily tank a crit followed by a normal hit, maybe even 2 crits FULLY HP'd out :3

I was Level 85 when I killed the hippo, and got .48%
My archer is now Level 87, and soloing a Hippogras only gave me .47%
Monsters in templar gave me .095% and currently they now give a flat .08, so using that as a base for comparison... The Hippogras' experience was only increased by about 20%
