View Full Version : Windows Xp or Windows Vista?

Which one and why?
For me I would say I prefer Windows Vista simply because I've had it for along time and I still haven't got a Virus or any Spyware or other Malicious files on my PC. I'm starting to think if I even need Anti Virus and Anti Spyware protection :)
Whereas on Windows Xp I could get infected easily and it never lasted long before I had to do a complete re-install of the Operating System.
And its a pity my Thread on who drinks Alcohol was deleted. The admins remove polls for about the dumbest of reasons.

True. Most things are not compatible with Vista but thats only if your computer is made of Cement from the Stone Age.

Well then if you get Vista you should be able to do anything. Dung is compatible with the latest hardware.
And even drivers too Dung Drivers (http://116.photobucket.com/albums/b36/Advent_Nebula/fail.gif)

Vista-users have had problems with SoS before. Me and many others for instance couldn't see the quantity of stuff. It made it a funny guessing-game when I had to scroll back to town.(Acolytes hates this when you can't burn pots anymore)

Meh I'll be able to fix whatever problems I have. Those would have been mainly from nooby installation phailures or just lack of intelligence in the first place.

Tried vista before.... NEVER again. Hate it. Looks nice, but is a pain in the *** to get it to do what you want. REALLY hate that UAC crap. LOL. I know it's easy to turn off, but it still asks you about a billion times if you're sure you want to do that, or Microsoft recommends that you don't do that, are you REALLY sure you want to. Annoys the hell out of me. Will wait to see what SP1 for vista brings. I'm usually using several OSs... Depending on what I feel like on any given day. LOL. Got XP, Ubuntu, Fedora Core 7, Knoppix, among a couple others that I can't think of at the moment. Wouldn't say my comp is cement from the stone age, pretty good.. Specs:
CPU: Intel Q6600 (2.4ghz overclocked to 3.0)
RAM: 4GB (Win XP only sees 3.2GB) DDR2 667mhz
G/C: PCI-E x16 GeForce 7600GT 512MB (Only thing I really need to upgrade)
MoBo: Gigabyte P35C-DS3R (supports DDR2 and DDR3 RAM
That's about it for the main parts... :)

Apple computers aren't too bad... :) OSX is pretty much based on UNIX/Linux. Got a couple friends with apple comps... Most of the hackers I know (I'm not one, haven't a clue how they do what they do) all run UNIX or Linux boxes. That's one reason there aren't many virii on Apple or Linux, cause most hackers wouldn't want to write a virus that would attack their own comp...

I don't like Microsoft at all. The reason why we all use it is because its compatible with almost everything. Pitty that goes for viruses as well.
Mini PE sounds not to bad, I was thinking about giving it a whirl. Same with Knoppix.

What a load of bunk!
That assertion alone shows your complete lack of knowledge of the fundamentals of why Windows is prone to Malware and Linux and Mac is not.
And I am not going to waste my time explaining it to you because you clearly lack the ability to comprehend it anyway.
I don't even own a Mac but I know that the OS is based on FreeBSD and I know how Unix works.
So just go right ahead and keep believing what you want to believe i.e. MS FUD, and I promise you that no one will care.

BTW: what is "MS FUD"?
1) I am not a "Dude"
2) FUD, Fear Uncertainty Doubt.
The methodology MS uses to keep Windows users from abandoning Microsoft products.
3) Apology, I just get tired of hearing the SOS about Mac OS vs Windows and I though you may have been one of the MS myrmidons, LOL
Sorry.
BTW I much prefer XP over Vista for so many reasons so my vote goes to XP.
Long live XP and I hope that Vista just dies.

ORLY? Keep in mind, everyone knows this is REALLY what Windows Vista (vista.ytmnd.com) is all about.
Just the bare facts, right there.

What about people who doesn't use one of those?
What's the point on making polls so closed?
Besides, if you have vista and it works good, you will chose vista. In the end this kind of thing ends up being all biased.

No it wont. And because frankly I don't care about Linux or Knoppix or Mac OS or anything or whatever. The main war is "Should I upgrade to Vista or keep Xp"
Believe me I was wondering if I should make it a "What OS do you (use)" but I wanted a "What OS do you think is Better"

You want an honest truth from someone? Take a look at this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYIfyDENTIY).
Sure Vista may appear to have excellent resistance to "V.I.S.T.A." but it's functionality roles, like Deny/Allow and the new "RSOD" could and should have been omitted.

Yeah I noticed that and then watched it again and the people in the IRC saw it as well xD
It looked like it was Xp in the background though. And that didn't look like the BSOD, although I haven't seem Vista's

Hey! not cool. Vista does not = Leopard.
In terms of RAM yes they have similar Reqs, but Vista calls on for over TWICE the amount of disk space that Leopard needs.

Vista takes jack all RAM. I have 4Gb of DDR2 + SDD RAM. And it takes less then 11% of my Ram. My 2GB Pagefile never even gets above like 8%

You want a job done the right way? You want to have a lot of RAM and HD space saved? You want simplicity and security? Wanna feel REAL fast?
Don't get Linux, *nix, Vista, or Leopard. Get yourself a copy of Amiga OS 4.0: the way computing should be. Amiga is like sort of like an Audi A8: it'll keep you safe forever, and the possibility that it will EVER let you down in an "accident" is extremely slim.

True, that is a most unfortunate weakness. Item: I HIGHLY recommend not placing it in a network group that includes Mac and PC machines, though, things might get a little ugly.
Here's an artist rendering (http://youtube.com/watch?v=pPqllS6ng2g) video of Amiga's pur3 0wn4g3, in terms of networking. Not really sure this is that much of an exaggeration by RL standards.

so that means you have the 64-bit version because 32-bit cant see 4GB of memory, like shown here. and why do you only a 2GB PF, my system set it to 6.3GB on mine. PF should be x2 more then your memory.

Ive been using XP for about 4 years, no viruses, no problems, all my software and games are compatible with it. Where as 3 of my buddies who switched to Vista shortly switched back to XP because it gave them problems and wasnt compatible with enough programs (games).

Vista came with the computer when I bought it and it's working fine so why bother change back to XP? Havent found a thing I cant run with this OS yet. And not a single spyware/virus (which I used to get on xp). So Im happy with Vista :)
Oh, and the Air theme is way cooler than XP :p

I used xp for years with no problem no real issues so I can't say I don't like xp. Now I'm running vista and besides a few issues with windows update  (stupid .net framework 1.1 that gives you error code 643) it hasn't given me any real issues yet. So I'm not complaining but then again I'm not ditching my copy of xp yet either....
By the way if anyone gets this error the fix is on this page....

Windows Vista.... It came with my computer.... I knew it used mor RAM so I bought additional I am running 4gigs. I have not had any real issues with the OS, although I had trouble with SoS in the beggining. Only because I failed to instal the correct software to run it correctly. Video Drivers and ActiveX... i believe that was the two... Now SoS runs flawless.
